Ever Have One of Those Days

1OLDGI's picture

No, not one of those days burdened with the minutia of making a living, I've long sinced conditioned myself that work is...well just work...a means to an end...a necessary evil. My memory of a bad day at work only lasts as long as the walk to the door at five o'clock. I work hard for my money and give it my all during the work day but I figure that once I've earned the days wages, they can no longer lay claim to anything that is mine and I'm no longer obligated to care so I don't.

Detours...

"As many of you know, I have a site devoted to my carving, www.windjammerpipes..... I have decided that site should remain a showcase for my carving and any discussion of my processes or experiences in carving will remain here on my blog, which would seem logical. Any carver, whether the professional or hobbyist, knows that Briar can be unpredictable. It is a gorgeous wood, but unknown headaches can lie buried beneath. I have heard of carvers going through 3 or more pieces of wood just to complete a pipe because it was riddled with flaws or one particularly large monster was hiding just below the surface. Many will not do custom orders for this very reason. I have recently experienced this headache, but with a pleasant outcome."

Paolo Becker

Quaffer's picture

I am not usually a fan of bulldogs or rhodesians, but this is one nice pipe:

The chamber size is a little "square" but I think I could get over that. Any Paolo Becker owners/fans out there?

Five Years Ago

Muddler's picture

to the day, I decided to start smoking pipes full time. I'd given up cigarettes for several weeks. Like most cigarette smokers, I owned a pipe but had never got into it. Well, I certainly did - that little Peterson worked overtime for several months before I realised that it was appropriate to own more than one pipe - yet another Pete. It seemed that the right thing to do was to settle on a tobacco I liked & to stick with it - the way cigarette smokers do with their brands - & so I did. But since I'm also more than a little obsessive - the journey once struck, had to follow its course. Five years later, I have somehow accumulated around 100 pipes & have smoked dozens of tobaccos. It has been one hell of a ride.
