First Entry - Today's Buy
Well this is the first post here. I joined a couple of nights ago after lurking for a few weeks. I started to write an entry a couple of times, but this big white box looks rather challenging.
This morning's adventure was getting ready for a weeks vacation in the outer banks of NC. If you've been watching the weather, then you know Hannah is going to be there, and as it works out, about two hours before our check-in time.
Anyway, today was the provisioning for the trip, out buying all the things to take along. Food mostly and other miscellaneous supplies. The trip took me near one of the local tobacco shops, one that I had not been by in a few months.
When I had last been there, there was a Savinelli Hercules - bent with a rounded bottom to the bowl, but six sided. Nice deep brown grain. It caught my eye then. I'm drawn to the larger bowl sizes although my collection has various size pipes.
The fact that it was still there was a sign...
Also bought some EMP. The break-in started upon exiting.

Welcome Kev
You can't go wrong with a Savenelli full of EMP. Good score! Sorry Hannah messed up your plans, but hey, it seems to have worked out ok!

Welcome Key!
Very glad to have you aboard! You've found a neat site. Good luck with Hanna and that Savinelli - she sounds like a beauty!

Welcome Aboard
Although I've seen a few of them this year I can't much complain about hurricanes, compared to some other parts of the state we've been fairly fortunate. Just hope our luck holds out and we just see blustery days with a good bit of gray yucky weather.

Welcome aboard, Kev...
There really is nothing here for non-smokers or sane folks. But, what you will find here is a very nice bunch of guys who are humble, understanding, opinionated and friendly as hell.
Leave the flight attendants alone please. One inquisitive passenger asked me recently... "What's with all these incredibly beautiful flight attendants always asking me ...
would you like anything? Can I give you anything? Strap yourself in tightly please! Put your seat back in the upright position, please?
Well, I simply told him, "the reason they have you strapped tightly into your seat is so you can't get at them!" LOL :)

Welcome Kev...
you'll always remember the events surrounding the purchase of that pipe. We're currently awaiting Hannah as she zooms up the coast towards us. Gotta go charge up batteries and fill oil lamps.

Thanks For The Welcome
Thanks guys for the hearty welcome. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and interacting here.
As for interrupting our plans... the rain has mostly stopped and the storm's center is now in VA, parallel to us but west of us. Its been rather gusty. Around 11AM there were a few brown outs. We're going to leave and head for the outer banks around 2:30. It will only be an hour and half drive for us provided there is not some problem out there we don't know about. The local news seems to indicate things are better down there now then they are here at the moment.
The new Sav is already working out well, did some breaking in yesterday and some this morning. I've made it a point though to stay away from the wind as it will turn any pipe into a furnace.
To those of you yet in the path of Hannah, expect a rain event followed by a wind event. Secure any loose stuff you have in the yard if you haven't already. You're certainly in my thoughts.
Sane?

Thanks Cap'n:
Well then, I should fit right in, since I am neither a non-smoker or sane. I'll let you all judge about humble and understanding. I already know I can be opinionated, and I'm generally pretty friendly.
Howdy, and welcome Kev.
Good to hear you are getting by in the nasty weather. The Savinelli should serve you very well.

Welcome Kev
Outer banks. Hmmm. Sounds like fishing. Hannah. Sounds like rough seas. Let us know how it goes. I'm in the mountains till Thursday. We have a cold front coming through on Wednesday - darn it. That can put the fish down. Falling barometer. Oh well. Take it as it comes. Or doesn't.
Yeah, a little rough today
Actually a little fishing would be nice, but its a little rough out there yet. No making firm plans, flexibility was the key at the start of the week. Where in the mountains? I've been in the Boone, NC area before.
Kev
Welcome.
