ABBREVIATIONS ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY
Sorry for shouting.
All the abbreviations we're using here are driving me crazy. I can't keep track of them all anymore. Honestly sometimes I read a thread and have no idea what you're all talking about. Can we PLEASE use this thread to list (and continue to list) the various abbreviations we've been using so I can have a small chance of understanding whats going on around here?
Here's the ones I use:
PSLNF = Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake
FVF = Samuel Gawith's Full Virginia Flake
BBF = Samuel Gawith's Best Brown Flake
BB#2 = Gawith & Hoggarth's Best Brown #2
PA = Prince Albert
CH = Carter Hall
LOL = Laugh out loud
ROTFLMAO = Roll on the floor laughing my a$$ off
MacB = Mac Baren
SG = Samuel Gawith
G&H = Gawith & Hoggarth
Dunnie = Dunhill
KW = Kawyoodie
Birth Year Dunhills
I first read about this concept years ago on ASP and thought I might get around to it someday. Lately I've been cruising ebay looking and I've got to tell you I'm not impressed. From what I've seen pipes in 1960 had thin stems by today's standards. Here's one for reference http://cgi.ebay.com/...
- see what I mean?
Since I don't smoke a pipe without a softie bit on it these thin bits simply won't work for me. Oh well ... so much for that idea.
btw, I have seen thicker stems but they're on the larger sized Dunhills and I don't like clenching a heavier pipe so they're out of the question too. Bummer.
MPC's tobacco of choice (for now)
When we first got together in 2007 we were all in love with MacBaren Navy Flake.
Then Lars introduced us to Orlik Golden Sliced and a new love affair begain.
Its funny how a site can have a 'flavor' about it ... I think little by little we're becoming a Burley lover's site. So what say you MPC ... if we were to designate ONE tobacco as the MPC tobacco of choice (and I understand this will change from time to time) what would it be now?
I'm still head over heels in love with MacBaren Navy Flake and would vote for that fine tobacco.
What say you?
What should MPC's unofficial tobacco of choice be for the fall (or spring if you're on the opposite side of the planet) of 2008 be?
You gotta look at this tamper ckr made for me!
What can I say - I'm floored. Its absolutely incredible. This guy's got talent folks. Simply outstanding. I can't wait to get it in my grubby mitts. I'm almost afraid to get it dirty its so pretty! Wow. Just ... Wow.

Toppings - an identity crisis
The good Captain really got me thinking the other day with his thread on tobacco toppings. I've been the anti-topping guy for so long that I've really had to come to grips with the idea that many (if not most) tobacs have some sort of topping. What really kicked me in the pants is MacBaren Navy Flake and its sister blend Virginia Flake both having honey licorish chocolate jubilee topping. And I love them both. Then there is always Peterson University Flake with Raspberry topping. Samuel Gawith uses what we often hear called "Lakeland soap" - its a topping too. And Gawith & Hoggarth has that weird topping on Best Brown #2.
I guess in retrospect I do like topped tobaccos! Jeeze it hurt to type that.
