I found one, I found one, I found one !!!!!

I've been looking for a saddle bit Tanshell for over a year ... yeehaaah! I've seen them going for well over $250 on ebay regularly (well, the tapered bits, never did see a saddle bit) and I just scored this baby for only $165 ... I am stoked! The Dunhill Geek (thank you Lars) scores a big one!

I'm getting better ... besides, the Tanshell has been discontinued (over a year ago) - I have no choice but an estate if I want this pipe. Its been professionally cleaned ... we'll see ... eek.

ROFLMAO

Sparks's picture

Just rinse with Listerine after every puff, that's all. LOL

In all seriousness, don't be worried Rick, I don't want to freak you out. I know this is a big step and its an amazing pipe. When you are sitting in your den, puffing away on that with a good book and in the zone, you will thank yourself.

Actually ...

RickPiatt's picture

If the pipe isn't squeeky clean ... so clean Adrian Monk would smoke it ... no, cleaner ... it'll go out to that pipe rejuvinator that Dock listed a few months ago. I'm still incredibly grossed out over the whole estate thing, but I *AM* better than I used to be. Like I said, if there was ANY way I could purchase an unsmoked Tanshell for a reasonable price I'd go for it. I was watching one on ebay today and after just a few hours the bid was already over $300 ... can't imagine where it will end up but I know a Tanshell isn't worth that much money regardless. So, given my stingyness regarding the absurd prices on ebay lately for anything labeled "dunhill", well, my choices are somewhat limited. I have searched. Dilligently. This is just the best I could do. Besides the fact that I wanted a straight billiard (I believe this is Dunhill's most popular shape), I wanted a discontinued model, I wanted not only a straight billiard but I wanted one with a saddle stem, and I wanted it at a reasonable price. Tough criteria. Right now I'm thrilled ... we'll see how I feel when I hold that pipe in my grubby mitts.

Ream it, Salt and Alcohol, scrub the hell out of the shank and bit with alcoholed bristly pipe cleaners and Lock and Load! The restoration gyration you describe looks like it has quite a turn time. I'd make it a weekend project and be burnin burley in that joker by Sunday night! Life is just too short for delayed gratification (or drinking cheap beer or sweatin the small stuff). BTW, nice pipe, may you enjoy it for many years to come.

For the first smoke, you should be kicked back in a leather chair burning something good (that sure looks like a Squadron Leader pipe to me). For music it would be Dave Brubeck "Take Five"

OMG...

Oldgi, I knew I like you for a reason (or many) Dave Brubeck...

Dave Brubeck!!! He was my late father's (who played drums in a jazz band in his heyday) favourite. How well I remember those wonderful doobie doobie, doobie doobie doo's. What was this post about again? Nice pipe Rick.

Neither OGS nor CBB, he got a large pipe to enjoy ropes and cob/dark plug.

This pipe will never be

RickPiatt's picture

With all these legal proceedings that were thrust upon me a couple of days ago (and all the expenses I'll incur from these attorneys) I chose to cancel this order ... I'll get a Tanshell Billiard one day ... but its not going to be today. Doh. What a shame - I looked so long ... but there will be another.
