Fixing a cracked pipe?

Fixing a cracked pipe?

I bought a savinelli second a few months ago. It did not draw very well and tried to drill it out more and cracked it. The crack is about a quarter of a inch on the bottom. What do you use to fix a crack in briar?

Did you crack the bottom of the bowl? Does it go through from the inside to the outside? Did you crack the shank.

Need details to help you with this one...

It is on the bottom of the bowl where the shank goes into the bowl. I tried to free up the hole at the end of the shank (in the pipe) and it cracked under that point inside the pipe. I sanded it down and it looks like a hairline crack. It still smokes but you can tell.

In all honesty...

You might be fine doing nothing. Hard to say. I have a pipe that I just made that has a hairline crack on the bottom of the bowl, but it does not go through.

I guess I would really have to see it to know if it would be an issue... and even then, it might be hard to tell.

It may be one of those "Just go with it and see what happens" situations.

Its a Sav 2nd

So you messed around and broke it ... considering what you have invested I'd say cut your losses and toss the pipe calling this a learning experience.

I have tried

to fix a cracked shank (my fault). I used superglue & epoxy. It failed. But I would just seal a crack on the bowl area with a drop of superglue. Cake in the bowl should fix it, if thats where it is.

dont throw it away!

never throw away a pipe! thats terrible... just set it on the shelf even if its a crap smoke give it to some one who is thinking of starting that is if it still smokes... if anything display it or somthing... it makes me wonna cry thinking of pipes in the trash. i hang on to some pipe that i have that are completely cracked into bits!
