Pipe cleaners, best brand ?

Pipe cleaners, best brand ?

This is probably quite a meaningless thread to some, why just not grab a pack of RATOS or Niko or something while at the grocery store.

This is what I usually do, on the other hand, some etailers do offer pipe cleaners, and I could not find any thread on this forum where ppl get into ferverous discussions on the subject.

so, what about brands, names, materials, properties that really shine through comparing brand A from brand B.

I just use whatever I can

I just use whatever I can find. Usually dirt cheap cleaners. I have 10 packs of 100 cleaners in a drawer. It takes me about a year to get through them all if I stick to smoking OGS. If I get adventurous with my tobaccos, I will go through a pack every other month.

The stores here...

carry Dill pipe cleaners...both cotton and bristle. For some reason they are often hard to come by...and if you aren't paying attention, you'll get bristles instead of cotton.

Pipe sweetener ?

For the record...

The link that Rick posted is for B.J. Longs pipe cleaners. They are a NY company and one of only two companies in the US that make pipe cleaners, if I am remembering my facts correctly. Just a bit of useless information for anyone interested.

Never needed pipe sweetener. Its used when a pipe gets sour from abuse or oversmoking the poor thing. My pipes are babied so this has never been an issue. Sooo, long way to say I have no experience whatsoever with "pipe sweetener".

Actually

There has been some discussion on cleaners here

I have only used BJ Longs and have come to realize what the BJ must stand for. I think they suck in one aspect and it really bugs me. It seems they can't cut the cleaners in such a manner that they do not crimp one end. One end will always work fine but the other end with it's wire crimped to the side inevitably catches and scraps down the interior of the stem. Paste some links, I easily could be in the market for better cleaners.

well...

I actually had a bit of an adventure with this...I ran out of BJ Longs pipe cleaners about a month ago...and since then (until two weeks ago) I was looking for a decent replacement. The BJ Longs, while they may be crimped at one end, are actually very good in the world of pipe cleaners, as my limited search has shown. I bought some savinelli cleaners, and these are quite possibly the worst. They are not absorbent, and they leave fuzz-balls all in your pipe stem, so if you stick it in mid-smoke...good luck, because your draw will be stopped up. Next I tried Peterson pipe cleaners, and these were actually quite good, though not as absorbent as BJ Longs. They are also too narrow, so for pipes with tight draw, they are great...but for more open pipes, they don't clean all the way around. Finally I found my European replacement for BJ Longs, My Own Blend, Fleece Superior Drying Pipecleaners. These are even better than BJ Longs. They are the perfect thickness, they absorb well, and they don't make fuzz-balls. The only downside is that they are three times as expensive as the State-side counterpart.

Anyway...that is my two cents.

Cheers,

Josh

Thanks Josh

but I am still on a quest. It is good to know that the BJ's I have ar not at the bottom of the heap. I have had only once had a BJ leave behind a furr ball and for the life of me I could not figure out why a relatively good smoker was suddenly producing a gurgle with every draw. It took a while, I had to disassembled the stem, but I fould the little critter sopping wet in the airway at the bottom of the mortise. Every tiny bit of condensation was getting caught there and making the gurgles.

Bryco

I use Bryco. There are nothing special, just what my B&M carries. The have sharp, scratchy ends and shed fibers like a mangy dog sheds fur.

churchwarden pipe cleaners

I have a curchwarden that seldom gets smoked, and seldom gets its proper care due to the fact that I don't have any cleaners for it.

therefore I bump this thread, where do you get those?

btw, running a pair of moist fingers along the cleaner gets rid of alot of fuzz balls
