sits in my shop. While I just want to grab a piece of briar and go to town I have to tend to some odds and ends. Tonight there was a pipe that had sat too long in the cold and when it came back I stupidly tried to assemble it. Long story short I split the shank as the size changed. So tonight I fixed it and recut the mortise. Add another reject to the herd.
I also have to cut my daughter a new stem for her churchwarden. So that is now sitting on the lathe, actually it has been there for 6 months but tonight it got turned down close to size and needs to be drilled out and shaped and then fitted to the pipe.
I have one more IOU to my supplier of alternate wood but I think that is going to take a back seat to a pipe for me, which hopefully will not be a reject.
It really doesn't matter if I am making a pipe or just putzing about. It is time enjoyed, if there is a heaven on this earth; it is a pipe shop with a haze of smoke filling the air. As always once the job is done there is something that was left out; I should have set up an area with a couple of big leatherback chairs, a wide screen, coffee station and liquor and tobacco bars..... Maybe next round.
