New wax drip, candle drip, what have you

New wax drip, candle drip, what have you

I mentioned I've been working on a wax-drip and would post pics when finished. So Im gonna do that so nobody can call me a liar. (and if you do, Lars will moderate you).

This pipe took nearly two weeks to make because a) theres a lot to it, and b) I can only spend short whiles in the shop as I suffer from chronic pain and headaches.

Here it is. Its a big @ss pipe by the way.

Nice job

Tom,there is something about the black/tan theme with the natural accents that really grabs me. If I am not mistaken it is olive wood. I imagine you have smoked that type of wood, How does it compare to briar? What is the break-in taste like?

Nice

I am not a fan of some of the wax drip pipes that I have seen, but this one is very nice. It is a little more subtle than most. I especially like the added smooth area at the end of the shank. Love the saddle bit, too.

I see that Carter Hall in the background.

laughing that...

quaffer picked up on the CH! Thats funny man. Very astute. Glad you like the subtleness of the drips because my wife just told me it looks like a drum and I though sh!t I should have accented it more. Thanks.

Sparks, it took me a while to settle in a a rustication I like as well. Sometimes a picture can make a pipe look better than it is except for rustication ya gotta see up close and personal to really appreciate it.

ckr, not olive. Briar but not plateaux. Actually, I have one piece of Olive left and to be honest, Im saving it for you. Olive... here we go again... is grat for burleys. I dont know what it is they're just sympatico. Break in is as with briar except maybe less effort needed. I once had a pair of Black and Tan shoes back when I was cool. Now I just drink them.

Is it time to put the Christmas decorations away?

In pipe making, subtleness will always win me over.

You know, I was going to let that slide, but now that you mention it . . .

I'm not a fan of those

I'm not a fan of those waxdrip type things, but I love a good rustication .. and that's a good rustication, so I tip my hat on that one.

Now go make me a bulldog! :)
