Pipe chuck

Pipe chuck

SmileyCentral.com
Good morning to all MPC'ers. Its a crisp but serenely beautiful morning here in Michigan. Some MacBarens Navy Flake in a Peterson Aran Bulldog starts the day just perfectly. A hot cup o' joe on the side.

As I get my stuff together for my pipe bench, I would like to get your input on the type of chuck I should use to chuck up briar in a benchtop lathe.

I have seen wide differences from a simple plate that you screw into the briar from the back to $600 highly engineered chucks from my nearly "next door neighbor" Ken Lamb.

Keeping in mind that cost is an issue, however, I want to get something worth having, I'd like the groups input.

Thank you to all and good morning

Undoubtedly the oneway

Undoubtedly the oneway talon but swap out the short jaws for the
profiled Tower Jaws. The tower jaws are going to hold the blocks more securly and at a wider vareity of positions. Short jaws? well they just fall short. You need to specify the thread for the adapter so you will need to know the spindle size you will be mounting it to.

If you get a 1" 8tpi spindle you will be compatable with the jet1014vs. Just incase you ever decide to upgrade.

Great input

Great input Chris!

Appreciate it. Just what I was looking for. I'll have to hawkeye the budget for a while, but that's okay. Looks like a solid solution and the prior planning for Jet compatability is invaluable.

What he said

I haven'r swapped out the dovetail jaws it comes with and its a pain in the @ss or anything else that might get struck by 40zs of flyin' briar...

(2) Tower Jaws for sale for the Oneway Talon

and possibly the Stronghold. These are profiled.

Seems a shame to buy a set of four when you only need two.

I'll sell at half cost plus shipping to you.
