An Ebay Story

An Ebay Story

So I saw this pipe on ebay the other day that caught my eye. It was an estate (which meant I wasn't really serious about it, just curious). Upon looking at the bowl it was obvious (very obvious) they had sanded the bowl bare and then coated the bowl with some home grown bowl coating. It was OBVIOUSLY done. So just for giggles I sent the seller an email stating that I was interested in the pipe but didn't want his bowl coating in the bowl and asked if he could sand it out ... he replied that I didn't know what I was talking about and that the pipe was not doctored for the sale ...

How was I so certain the bowl had been unprofessionally coated? Well, it was super thick. It covered the entire bowl but DIDN'T continue where the pipe cleaner protruded through the air passage (clear line demarking where the pipe cleaner blocked the goop from going into the air passage). And ... and, the guy swiped the bowl coating with his finger when it was wet and left a finger print!

I'll never understand some folks. JUST TELL THE FREEKIN' TRUTH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw, no I didn't buy the pipe. No I don't have the link to it anymore. Yes some poor schmuck bought it.

Did he

give a side shot with a 'ckr' stamped on the shank? It could have been my empty pencil sharpener and mix with yogart bowl coatings. Very thick and I just can't help but stick my finger in the bowl for a good lick. BTW, how much did he get for one of my prizes?

I didn't watch to see the final price

I can't imagine it went for all that much though. Sure hope not.

WOW

I've never understood people's compulsion to lie about stupid stuff. Why would something like that be important enough to lie about? Why not just tell the truth? I mean, obviously you had many doubts about this pipe to begin with so what's the worst that could happen, the truth changes your mind? I'm pretty sure if some dim wit will buy a pancake with an image of the virgin Mary on it, this guy would have had no problem getting someone else to buy this screwed up pipe. It seems integrity, like pipe smoking, is a struggling anachronism in today's world, sad really when you think about it.

I can name at least two

I can name at least two e-bay sellers who do this Rick.I don't appreciate it either. I was burned by one of them by buying a very expensive pipe that was supposed to be new and unsmoked that turned out to be heavily smoked and doctored up. When I received the pipe I could clearly see that a coating had been used. The pictues used in the description convieniently did'nt have close ups of the bowl's interior. The stem was very wavy and thin where the tooth marks had been sanded down and then buffed out. I pulled the stem off and ran a shank brush with a bit of pipe sweetner into the bowl and it came out pitch black!I did the same in the stem and guess what!It came out pitch black too. I sent the pipe back the next day! I no longer look at the guys listings....

Bad sellers
