A nice rope pipe
By some reason my al pascia, similar to the one in the link, only smokes well with ropes, or perhaps some GH - Dark plug. These tobaccos do smoke well with most pipes though, very cool and slow.
As there are schematics, I do wonder, are there any reasons why it should not perform well with a more hotter VA, or burley for that matter ?
It gets VERY hot smoking even full virginia flake (that burns fine in my other pipes)
(it has gotten alot better when the cake has built up, but still...)
If I have not seen as far as others, it's because giants have been standing on my shoulders.

My Stanwell smokes everything red hot except burleys. So I only smoke Burleys in it! I can't make sense out of it so I just go with the flow.

With 120+ pipes under my belt (yeah, big belt) I have only had a few pipes that smoked hot - like really hot. Two of them are Kriswill pipes with their notorious thin walls. The other is an old noname thing. So far I haven't found a single blend they will accept without going eyebrow searing hot. Common for all three is that they are previously unsmoked, so some TLC (and cake) will without a doubt settle them down.
Keep at it.
