Tsuge Kaga Pipes.
Just curious about these lower end Tsuge pipes. Any input on them from someone who has smoked one for a while would be much appreciated!

I'm curious myself. There's a great sale on them at http://smokingpipes.com/

Lots of comments on these on a thread I started on ASP. All were positive. I have one Tsuge that I love and I just bought another from sp.com. Can't specifically comment on the Kaga as I don't have one, but all indications are that they a solid bargain.
I just bought one of these from Smokingpipes.com...I have one other tsuge pipe...a very small pipe that I like for short smokes, as if it is smoked slowly it will last about 30 minutes...but their engineering is impeccable...though they do often have small fills.
Cheers,
Josh
I bought one of these during the last smokingpipes sale; it's been a great smoker. I have looked for fills but havent noticed any. The engineering is top shelf
They're not bad pipes all and all but ALL of the Tsuges have this terrible bowl coating that tastes wretched! If you're going to buy one, make sure to sand this out before firing it up! it took me 50 smokes to fully make it dissapear in one I have!

I hjave heard nothing bu t good reports on the Tsuge Kaga line of pipes. They seem to be well constructed. If you want to get rid of the coating, I have heard that filling the bowl with some potable alcohol and letting it set for a bit will allow you to fairly wipe the stuff out of the bowl.

Thanks for the idea on how to get rid of that stuff...it was my only real complaint about the one that I have. Now the coating is gone and I am happy...I just have to re-start breaking it in
cheers,
Josh
Smoking my first bowl in the Tsuge Kage Tan Bent Brandy. As Josh recommended, I sanded the bowl with 150 grit and then 220 grit sandpaper. Wiped the bowl down a couple times with some alcohol (I used vodka). After drying overnight, I lit the pipe up about ten minutes ago loaded (1/2 bowl during break in) with Esoterica Penzance. Absolutely no foul taste whatsoever. The pipe smokes great and looks nice...especially for $47.50. Quite a value for the price.
By the way, I am loving the Penzance.

make sure you look really closely at the dimensions of them...b/c I got one and it came out a lot smaller than I had expected...but after making a replacement stem...it works great...and if you get most of the bowl coating out...then they are great smokers...
Cheers,
Josh
The Tsuge Kaga is definitely a smaller pipe. Kind of nice for a change, but I do prefer the larger pipes. The smaller size works out fine for what I am going to smoke in it, all latakia blends. Latakia is an overpowering flavor for me that I am adjusting to...learning to like. So smaller doses of a latakia blend are best right now, and that fits in prefectly with this smaller pipe.

Sorry, somehow I managed to double post on this one.

I bought a Tsuge Triangle Billiard from Smoking Pipes for $90 and it is great. I have other high end pipes, but my Tsuge is one of my favorites. It is well made and smokes great. I am not sure of the difference between the $90 dollar billiard and the $58 billiards on sale. The $90 Tsuge is great and well worth the money.
Enjoy the site, good to have ya on board !

I really like the Tsuge bent bulldogs. They look very sporty :)
The price is right and April permitting, I will put down an order for one.
