Unrelated Dunhill Story

Unrelated Dunhill Story

I have been on the hunt for a very specific Dunhill for the last four or five months. A shell briar, group 4 billiard with a saddle bit. Seems like a pretty standard pipe, but I could never find it. (The saddle bit was the criterion that caused problems.) Finally, Cup o' Joes got one in and I snagged it this morning. A 4203 and a ring grain to boot.

I cannot wait to add it to the rack.

I'm happy to you. Actually

I'm happy to you.
Actually is more difficult to find saddle bit straight billiards. In Italy too.

What the hell

is coming over everyone here. You all getting RickityRamonitus or is the summer sun baking the domes? Seems since the GI went out and got a pink shirt with an alligator on the tit everybody is on a Dunnie kick.

Q nice choice and that bit looks very comfortable.

Thanks. There definitely seems to be a glut of standard bits and a lot fewer of the saddles.

Hats

Nope. The hat takes care of that.

Thanks. It has been quite awhile since I purchased a pipe without a saddle bit. For me, they are much more comfortable than a standard.

My goal is to be the last kid on my block to own one.

Quaffer, nice catch, I love the shape. Congratulations!

Q! Way to go!!

Oh man you're gonna love that saddle Billiard. I have two with saddle bits and they're light as a feather. And yes, the saddle bits in the group 4 billiard shape are hard to come by. Score one for the good guys!

You going to dedicate it to anything in particular or let it be a slut?

btw, don't forget to toss that stupid inner tube when you get it ... dumb idea at Dunhill. Plus when you get rid of the inner tube the draw is more open and the pipe smokes more better-er (sorry, I'm in a silly mood).

Hey Quaffer,

I like the pipe very much. I have a saddle billiard I love but it doesn't have a white dot. Can't afford Dunny's.

Now that you have become so sophisticated, have you considered a new avatar pic and name? I think "Dunny Bunny" sounds good don't you? As for the pic, I'll leave that up to you. But, maybe a black suit, white shirt and black tie? (But, keep the hat, please). What say thee? (I'm jealous)

I am sure it will be dedicated to a specific genre, but I am not sure which. An English would be appropriate, but I have quite a few English/Balkan pipes for the amount of that tobacco that I smoke these days. I might just break it in with burley and then decide from there. Who knows.

Oh, yes. I had actually forgotten about that. Thanks. However, I usually disassemble and thoroughly inspect every pipe that I get and would have discovered it. But the reminder was nice. Thanks, again.

Good show and Cheerio

I think the old, rugged bucket hat would look good with a red smoking jacket and an ascot, don't you?

While the Dunhill is not the most expensive pipe that I own, it does add a bit of much-needed sophistication to the Quaffer household.

He he Quaffer old chum

I wonder who's next. Lord, I trust all this Dunny buying doesn't change MPC's yokel image. Just decided I will only smoke the Dunnies with Burleys while wearing a straw hat, blue jeans & an old T-shirt. While listening to Crosby, Stills Nash (& Young) - or Leonard Cohen, if I'm feeling really miserable. Or Carole King if the sun is shining. Balance the chi. Yin & Yang.

Q, I think your hat is perfect. Get yourself a tweed jacket with leather patches on the sleeves, a set of plus fours & see if you can track down CKR's dog. You might want to swop the ale for single malt.
