Attention New Members - MPC Redesign

Attention New Members - MPC Redesign

I figured since I have only been able to contribute a small amount to the redesign effort, there had to be something else I could do to help. So... I decided it might be good to get this important "topic" back up on the front page again.

For all those new members that are joining (and old ones who have moth's in their wallets), Brian is raising money for a redesign of the MPC site. This redesign will incorporate some new features, and a more streamlined interface to make your MPC browsing more enjoyable.

So, here is how it works.... $10, yep, just $10 to contribute to a better, slicker MPC. Just think, you can probably find that in loose change in your car or your couch. Its not a lot, and for all this site provides in enjoyment, knowledge and fellowship, its the least we can do. So, click on the ChipIn icon at the bottom left of the page and pony up your 10 smackers. Considering most of you will drop that much on a tobacco site in about 20 seconds, It shouldn't be hard.

Now.... for those of you that still have a death grip on your wallet, CKR decided to "up the anty". Every $10 minimum donation gets you a "raffle ticket" of sorts. CKR has donated a hand made, custom pipe to be raffled off : http://s186.photobucket.com/albums/x313/ckrpipes/No-022/darkprince.jpg. Every donation of 10 George Washington's gets you one shot at that pretty puffer. The more ya give, the better your chances. So, take advantage of this amazing opportunity to own one of CKR's pipes, and more importantly, help improve this amazing site.

Hope to see that ChipIn amount increase rapidly. Good luck !!!

Justin

P.S. - I will repost this every week till Jan 31st if thats what it takes !!!!

Isn't this a bit rude?  I mean, isn't it kind of like inviting the neighborhood over for a block party and then telling them to pony up some money so you can redo your deck for a better party next year!  They're new, let them enjoy themselves without any financial pressure - its the fastest way to drive away membership.

Certainly existing members who are so inclined will support this board that we all enjoy so much ... but new members being asked to dole out cash is just wrong.

Maybe I'm out of line here.

My plan is to 'pony up' near the end of the month after I get by the effects of holiday shopping.  Thats been my plan ever since Brian announced extending the deadline and I feel it is appropriate for me since I use this site so often.  And I'm glad to do this because this is my primary - hell, my only pipe related page I frequent.  But I gotta tell  ya EB ... seeing you ping this on a weekly basis is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.  Honestly when I saw it my immediate response was - that's the end of that donation! ... but then I remembered how much I enjoy MPC and got over it.

Upon further review...

This is a close one - on one hand ya gotta love Sparky's moxie - on the other hand, if I were new to a site and I'm asked for cash right out of the chute, I'd prbably not come back - too much pressure too early.

Love ya like a brudder Spark, but I'd have to agree with Rick - we'll leave the welcomed new members alone. Those of us that have been here a while should decide if we give or not.

My plan is to also contribute at the end of the month. I think this site rocks now - imagine it with a facelift!!

Keep on bringin' it Sparky!! We need your energy!!

Nope....Im done.

My efforts have been maxed. My intentions were not to turn anyone off, nor to scare any new members away.

This was simply done in fun and an effort to be able to contribute where financially I could not. My apologies to new members that were taken aback, and old members that may have been insulted. Again, not the intention.

Hey Bev,

enthusiasm, it is what you have and it is appreciated. rp, as always makes sense.  I honestly think that those of us that enjoy our time here on MPC want to support Brian in his efforts (to make millions) err.... to make this site a place where pipers feel welcome and at ease will carry the ball.

To clarify for ALL members (even non-members)

I agree completely with Rick et al...

Members (new and old) are NOT under any obligation to support this site financially. This is strictly on a voluntary basis, as I am sure everybody already knows - but you never really know. So I'll draw a picture.

This site is free of charge, as in the beer that hot chick at the corner of the bar just sent your way. Well she might actually have intentions, you'll go back to her place, you'll have some more drinks, things will heat up and well you'll end up paying for it later ... so ... anyway ...

MPC is free for all. Brian AKA Caydel has a burning desire to take MPC to the next level of excellence. In order to reach that, he needs some funding. Some of us has decided to make some donations and the MPC beaver also known as Sparky27 (or just plain Justin among friends) have picked up the proverbial baton of promotion and taken it upon himself to spread the word.

Don't kill the messenger :) (Oh, I have SO waited to use that line) The little guy had the best of intentions :)

Let me clarify

Justin,

I could have sent this by private email, but since I started this in public, I'll finish in public (getting nervous?  don't!).

Please don't see my comment as any kind of personal attack - it was not intended to slam you, but in retrospect, after re-reading it, I sure could have done a better job typing it.  Please forgive me if I came across harsh.

My concern seems to have been understood by all who read it so I won't rehash that - but what I do want to clarify is how much I appreciate your participation here on MPC.  You've brought a new life here (IMO).  Sparky is indeed a perfect name for your style - you spark up the conversations and keep things lively to say the least!  Hell, the way you're flying, you're going to pass Ckr and I and be the highest poster before the end of the month!  And thats cool!  You go pal.  I appreciate the way you stay on top of your threads - its not just a 'one post and gone' thing for you - no, you hold conversations ... and thats what makes MPC special.  The way we all interact with each other, hell, the way we've all grown to know each other is topps!

Unfortunately, in your enthusiasm (spelling?) you stretched just a tiny bit too far ... and I crashed into the room like a rhinocerous in a china shop and put a lid on it ... please don't lose that enthusiasm on my account.  Don't stop being the "Eager Beaver" on my account.  Should you continue pinging the weekly reminder?  Well, thats your call.  If you do, please leave the new guys alone - ok?  And me, well, I'm going to shoot some finances here just as soon as I can whether you ping it or not.  MPC rules.  I don't know what the facelift will do for it ... but if Brian wants to go for it then I say, "let 'er roll'.

So, long winded way to say I'm sorry if I insulted you ... it wasn't my intention.  And you certainly didn't owe me any type of apoligy pal but since you sent one - consider all things cool!
