Site chat
I dunno how many you have tried to use it, but the 'Chat' application linked to in the top menu actually works now.
Come drop in and chat with us - it would be fun to talk to you guys in real time. There are always people in the room!
For you more technically minded folks, the chat client connects to an IRC chatroom - #pipes on irc.sorcery.net. You can use a client like MIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) or XCHAT2 (http://www.silverex....)
Hope to see you there!
Oh, and would anyone be interested in setting up 'Group smokes' or something like that? Group chats at a certain time every week or something? Let me know what you think...

You will usually find me there from around 9am to 11pm CET and in the weekends usually from 7am to 1-2-3-4ish am CET :) On weekdays you will probably find me somewhat unresponsive during work hours, for obvious reasons, but I'll be around and eventually react to any slur directed towards me :)

Saying something about crazy Danes usually will let you know if he's alive. But, you know what they say about poking a sleeping bear...
I was on good terms with some Danish guys back in college. They were exchange students and lived in the dorm. Those guys had cases of Tuborg Winter Ale under their beds, in the closets ... everywhere. Then they discovered Gentleman Jack whisky. It was all downhill from there. Great guys. They called bathrobes house coats. I loved it.
We're good decent people. Even better when we're liquored up.

Looks familiar. Maybe that's what they drank.
I really do admire Denmark, particularly for the country's defiance of Hitler.
Well, the Danish government at the time had nothing to cheer about. They made a deal with the Germans and let them march in without any resistance.
My Grandfather was one of those who wanted to change that. He was a lively member of the resistance and did his fair share of sabotage. He died a few years before I was born, so I have never had the chance to hear all his stories.

Remarkable. I bet he was a very interesting man.

These are my reasons.
The Jews were a big issue for Denmark and the population did everything they could to keep them safe. The boats to Sweden were leaving in the dead of night with no lights while german partrols were guarding the waters.
The King made his usual horseback ride through Copenhagen as he had always done, to show the people that he was still on the throne and Germany would not make a mockery out of him.
To the rest of MPC: Sorry about going WAY OT here :)

More off-topic I'm afraid...
During the WWII, the situation in Finland was rather an unusual one. As you may know Finland had no choice but to ally with the Nazis because of the Russian invasion to Finland. Still no Finnish Jew was turned over to the Nazis during the war.
I found this that may intrest you:
"During the 1940 war between Finland and Russia, known here as the Winter War, Finnish Jews fought alongside their countrymen. But most surprising to those unfamiliar with this nation's Jewish community could be the fact that Finnish Jews fought in World War II alongside Germany on the Russian front, as their country allied itself with the Nazis.
Even more unusual, the Finnish government afforded Jews full civil rights throughout the war despite strong pressure from the Nazis. Today's community has a memory of a “field synagogue” built by Finnish soldiers in which they could conduct services alongside SS units.
Most interesting, perhaps, is another local story of a Jewish soldier who defied death to rescue a battalion of SS soldiers pinned down by enemy fire. Offered an Iron Cross he refused, in flawless German.
When a German officer asked where he learned to speak so well, the soldier reportedly answered that he was Jewish, and that since Yiddish was his mother language, it was easy for him to speak German. He then marched out of the deathly silent tent. The Finnish government supported his refusal of the award."

First, apologies for steering this thread off topic.
That being said, thank you to Slartie and Jari T for posting that additional information. I hold Finland in the same high regard. Same for Sweden. Scandinavia has my love.
With off topic when it has relevance and value. Could not have picked more provocative off topic conversation in my opinion. Intriuging is all I have to say.
Thanks guys !

Just to jump back on topic for a moment, sorry I keep missing yas all in the chat.
If you log in, stick around for more than a minute or two - seems every time I look away, somebody logs in, hears nothing, and logs back out again! We're there, really. Just quiet!
That's true. We try to be there to pounce on all who join the chat, but sometimes we're just not active in conversation and may be doing something else. Just call out our names on the chat, and you will soon notice if there are any "life signs".
