Well that's uglier!
The pipe in the top left of this web page ... who drew it ... its MUCH uglier than the previous one. No insult intended ... but it's fugly. Looks hack.

10/17/08 - Morleysson - "Other than rubbing two sticks together, or flint and tinder, and lightening takes too long and can be dangerous, I prefer Diamond kitchen matches in the house and the smaller Diamond packs for travel." (on what he uses to light his pipe)
10/17/08 - 1OLDGI - "So Ricky, here's what you do. Pull out a Kaywoodie (make sure it's clean), lock and load a nice bowl of PA, Half and Half, or Edgeworth. Set fire to same. Open a cold Natural Light and enjoy. Sometimes less is more and getting back to basics is a sure fire way to stave off these sorts of existential funks."
More Quotes...
I prefer it myself.. it fits much better with the rest of the page than the picture of a pipe on a white background.

I'm glad you appreciate my design skills...
The intent of that was to more or less 'rough in' a logo idea, see how it looks on site. I'm not totally sold on it either, yet I am not quite sure what I want to do for the logo yet.
If you have some ideas, or want to submit a logo, I am open to any suggestions.
I don't know if I can ask Graphic Design for any more favors but under the circumstances I will over extend my welcome.

The solution is simple.

I just put one together...that is really similar in theme to the one up there now, but with a dunhill pipe, etc. but i am still having troubles uploading images. I keep getting invalid filename...if you know how to fix this let me know...I have tried both Safari and Firefox, but neither is working.
Cheers,
Josh
are you trying to upload to?
I opened a free account at photobucket.com and link to it.

So I have a new logo that you can take a look at...tell me if you like it...

the file is called "mpc"... and you can download it as a jpg file or a psd file...depending on which you want...
Cheers,
Josh
you will have to copy and paste that link...because links don't ever become active in my posts...(because I always forget to use firefox instead of safari)
Cheers,
Josh
Excellent job, the background is easy on the eye yet accents the pipe, community rests on the desk line and its one classy pipe. Is it yours?

I wish that I owned that pipe...it is just a bunch of fancy photoshop work that makes it look like it is smoking and in a space etc.

I was just trying to come up with something tat felt a little more fancy and pleasing to the eyes, but still said something about the feeling of home and comfort that you would expect to find in a community.
Cheers,
Josh
come across the nailgun, cuz you hit it right on the head.

Thanks!...I guess that means that going to school is doing some good...because other people are seeing the things that I want them to see.

That's a really cool logo, Josh.
I played around with some logo ideas last night, but nothing worth while came up.
Nice work!

I had fun making it...I know what you mean though about nothing worth while coming up...I have days where i will be working on a design...and I will get nowhere. Then sometime the next week, I will blaze through the design and get everything done in just a couple of hours. Design is like that...i think we must work subconsciously or something because otherwise I can't explain it.
Cheers,
Josh
ok, trying the new logo on for size. How does it look for you guys?
I think Josh should get 25 points, he is such a lagger.

Somehow the text in the logo seems a bit tame compared to the rest. Maybe Josh could whip up some spiffy styling to the text?

with me.
My PS doesn't have a lot of fonts to choose from. Now off to the Depot

yeah the text was pretty bad...arial...but I didn't intend for it to go up on the site that way...haha...I put a new version of it in my file server...

both as a psd and a jpg titled mpc
Cheers,
Josh
but I think the text should be scaled down a bit on the length and brought in from the grey edges. IMHO

now that I look at it again...I think I like the font you chose better...regardless mine would need to come in and not be so crunched

Josh
unstreatch that logo.

did you somehow link to the file on my server?...because I replaced it with a new file of the same name...and if you did link directly to it...tell me how you did it!...becaus that means I can put images in my posts!...as far as unstretching the logo...I saved over my old file...so I have no idea how to get it back.
Cheers,
Josh
haha...no really though...it is tough to be finniky when you yourself aren't doing the work...

Already there... Went out for a nice pipe smoke w/ my wife, brother-in-law, and a glass of Raspberry Rum. Escudo in a GBD (not sure of the model)
Josh - when you mentioned you made a new version, I just re-downloaded it, and uploaded the new version to the site. You should be able to put images into your posts. If it is still a pain, or not particularly intuitive right now, well, I still plan to redo it.
Of course, that has been on the back burner for months now, along with the contest I intend to launch....
I think this is great. The creativity is flowing :)
Now we just need an 88 x 31 pixel "button" logo for our blogs/whatnot.

Don't know how I missed this question. Possibly because it is a mid-topic reply. Yes I did link to the picture on your server.
I think at one point I tried [img] tags and it did not work. I then went to the FAQ and tried it on Netscape, inconsistant results and it was painful so I tried it in IE, piece of cake. Just like the FAQ.
You take the address
http://www.uoregon.edu/~jsohn/files/mpc.jpg
and you click that tree icon right above this editor box, and some window should appear requesting the URL and other stuff. So ya paste the text into the URL, then I set it to left and voila! picture.
With Photobucket
h ttp : //s186.photobucket.com/directory/?action=view¤t=No16-02.jpg
You need to remove the "?action=view¤t=" so it looks like below
h ttp : //s186.photobucket.com/directory/No16-02.jpg
Best of Luck,
Love posts with pictures.
