Blends of the Famous.

Blends of the Famous.

I was wondering if you guys knew what blends well known pipe smokers smoked? I know Einstein liked Revelation and Hugh Hefner liked Mixture #79. What are some others?

I've always wondered about this but never could find any reference to someone actually knowing what he smoked. Hey, this is cool. I may have to get some and pick up The Hobbit! Cool.

smoked some variety of what C&D markets as "Crooner", a burley and deer tongue mix. Sen Jim Bunning (R, KY) was a Granger smoker, or that was what he advertised when he was smoking. Based on a 40s advertisement, Santa smoked ERRd and Holiday.

Deer Tongue

In the literal sense of the word it is, in fact, smoking weed.

Faulkner

I read that William Faulkner liked to spread newspapers on his kitchen table, dumb out various blends and mix them together to create new varieties to smoke.

As for "Crooner," it's a good smoke, good tasting anyway, but I have such a terrible time getting that cube-cut burley to burn that I had to give up on it. The deer's tongue is sort of tangy and sharp.

Interesting Replies

Thanks guys.

Haven't heard those before. Just read a couple of articles that mentioned Gerald Ford also smoked H&H, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Walnut.

Here's another one

The actor William Conrad tried many blends and ended up smoking Amphora Red Full Aromatic.

Small cut, greenish in color and has a taste kind of like vanilla. Half & Half has deer tongue and it is usually identifiable by examining the tobacco. Although the last pouch I got I could find none. May have been a change. I don't know. But, there are a lot of blends that use some deer tonque.
