This Ever Happened to You?

This Ever Happened to You?

Recently I've kind of been in this existential funk with regard to pipes and tobacco that I don't understand and can honestly say has never happened to me before. At first, I attributed it to the very hot weather but now I feel like it's something else as well.

Pipes and tobacco just aren't tasting very good these days to me. I own some wonderful pipes and smoke great tobaccos but I just seem to be going through a rough stretch where nothing seems to do it for me. I mean, I'm still smoking but I'm down to about two bowls a day and I haven't had a really great smoke for quite some time. I just seem to be going through the motions.

Help! How do I fix this?

Ya, had it

Nothing tastes that good. You try everything in the entourage & it's all rather disappointing. Thankfully it didn't last too long. I just toughed it out. As Churchill said: We will never give up.

Never had

the experience. I am a 2-3 bowl a day smoker and maybe a bowl or 2 more on the weekends. Being a slut I am usually smoking a variety so I don't get bored with the blends, if I do I move on to others. They say Absense makes the heart grow fonder so putting them aside for a few days and they could be calling you again.

The other side of the coin could be to smoke a blend you are not terribly taken with, I know it seems like punishment but I would take some drastic measures to solve this problem if it were me.

Not much help and I am sure a lot of different approaches are running through your mind. Hopefully it is just the oncoming heat getting you down and you will adjust quickly. Wish you the best in getting by this slump.

I am amazed..

at how much my taste and smell varies from day to day. I drink the same coffee every day. Same amount of water from the same source, beans ground the same, made in the same pot and it tastes from great to ok. Same with my pipes. I have a few regular tobaccos and seldom try something new. I know I like these tobaccos. Some days they just aren't up to par. I don't know what causes this but it is frustrating. Hopefully, you'll snap out of it soon.

The heat does it...

to me. The pipes & tobacco don't excite me until cooler weather returns. I also find I lose interest in just about everything else too. The real heat hasn't hit yet so I'm still good:)

The closest thing I get to

The closest thing I get to this is when I'm really burnt out from work and/or school and simply don't have the time to smoke(read enjoy) my pipes. However, I end up smoking ciggarettes 3 times as much. Currently I'm in this phase, I have to say I've gone from 4-5 bowls a day and no ciggarettes to 1-2 bowls every two days and a little less then a pack a day.

Personaly I hate it, but if you can't get into it it's 45 minutes of misery or dumping out the bowl after 10 minutes and wasting all that tobacco.

I find the 35 degree weather doesn't help much either.

It rarely happens to me...

But, when it does, I brush my teeth, mouthwash rinse, take a long nap and wake up refreshed. Then I grab a favorite pipe and a real good tobacco. So far, this has worked for me. Sometimes, a change of pipe or a real "clean" pipe and a new tobacco or one I had not smoked in a while helps, too.

It happens from time to time

I cure it by stepping away from my pipes for a few days. It won't kill ya! When you come back its oh-so-worth-it.

Option B is to smoke something totally new to you for a few days. Lets face it GI ... most of what you smoke falls into the codger burley category (most, not all, I realize that). Why not grab a balkan or an aromatic for a few days. Anything VERY out of your ordinary would do the trick.

Of course, *sly grin*, you might just need to buy a Dunhill and some MacBaren Navy Flake. *LOL* (couldn't resist) (I also know this will never happen)

I could feel that from here.

Yeah, well I just couldn't stop myself from typing that line.

How could I not have typed that? I mean my fingers had already typed the entire response before my mind caught up with what they had typed! LOL

Then again ... maybe GI is just having trouble with his woodie ... oh damn ... oops ... well, I hear there's pills for that there dysfunction ... ROTFLMAO.

All in fun GI -

But maybe a pipe would turn your wheels a bit ... they do sell KWs new you know!

No way....

you should push the limit of your disinterestedness. Don't smoke, at all, for a few days. The palate comes back refreshed and ready for the long haul, or the tobacco really doesn't interest you and there is no cure but time. Many of our colleagues contend positively that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I prefer the negative vision, seeing that familiarity breeds contempt. Take yourself out of the system before the corner is turned and smoking is not to be done, again.

some tobaccos seem to do it

Like conniston cut plug or revor plug.

These are quite strong in taste, and other smoother sweeter and more shy tobaccos stand in the shadows for a few days after a CCP binge as an example. I think part of the problem is that going from strong to medium, is that I tend to draw more aggressively, making the smoking session just hot and nasty.

I remember being told

by a barman that the cure for malaise is a serious, serious drinking session. After one of these, one is grateful for a return to normality. So perhaps a Dunnie & Balkan would do it for GI.
