Last Tuesday in August Smokes
On a glorious Spring day, I have Plantation Evening in a full bent billard from Peterson. This really is a wonderful tobacco - a mild English, very much an all day smoke. I reach for it when I don't have the cajoles for something like Star of the East. Incidentally, I was shocked & horrified to see what Sasieni pipes went for on eBay over the weekend - pretty much Dunnie levels. Ridiculous. Is it an end-of-the-month thing? All prices seemed pretty high to me. Knocked my measly PADs right out of the water.
And now, for something different: "A Spring View"
Though a country be sundered, hills and rivers endure;
And spring comes green again to trees and grasses
Where petals have been shed like tears
And lonely birds have sung their grief.
...After the war-fires of three months,
One message from home is worth a ton of gold.
...I stroke my white hair. It has grown too thin
To hold the hairpins any more.

Enjoy your day.

I have but one, What am I doing up at this ungodly hour? Having just finished a bowl of Nightcap I am moving on some Red Fox. I have no delusions that I may catch some more winks, it would be nice, but I fear the day is into full swing. Might as well put the pot on and get on with it. Likely to be one of those days, mid afternoon the eyelids become heavy, the mind starts to wander and soon, the next cubical is disturbed by the sounds of snoring. Well when that times comes let me snooze with dignity and without any drool.
Yesterday was without pipe. It was very strange, I had no real desire to smoke. I planned on it but the phone just kept ringing, phone call after call. This, that and the other thing and soon hunger set it and my smoke hour had long passed. The reason I had no desire is on Sunday I was "Yak" attacked. I blend I actually favored went far east instead of the normal interesting smoke it usually gives. I still have not fathomed Why?. I had smoked some Oriental #8 last week and thought that maybe that was it. I checked back and found that the #8 was smoked in a green freehand. So I am still at a loss as to why. I think I should set this blend aside until I am in a oriental mood, at which time I suspect it will not taste oriental at all. Pipe smoking can be perplexing.

Yes!
Been sleeping for dunno, 15 hours o so, no Idea why, but I think it is due to all the studying of late.
Anyway, first pipe of the day, some sam gawith - black pig tail in my al pascia.
Becoming more and more curious about Gawith Hoggarth ropes. only had one of them so far.
If I have not seen as far as others, it's because giants have been standing on my shoulders.
I'm carrying my Butz-Choquin Daccord today and have filled it with RG thus far. I have some Pegusas for later on. As the mornings get cooler, the pipe tastes better and better.

I am about ready to load up a bowl of Rattray Professional in the Stanwell 19. I am not sure why, but that tobacco really tickled my fancy last night.
I have had my nose in a book too much lately. Therefore, I am listening to the iPod on shuffle, working on the website, and drinking beer tonight along with the pipe. So far, I have been lucky enough to have a Boulevard Pale Ale and a Boulevard Bob's 47 that I snagged in Austin last weekend. Boulevard Brewing Co. is one of my favorites and they are finally pushing into Texas. Not as far south as San Antonio, but only an hour away in Austin. Right now, the beer of choice is a Green Flash Brewing Barleywine in the bad ass chalice. I love this glass:
I put the Old Boy next to it so you could get an idea of how epic it is.
Cheers!

I had given a garhead a pipe, oh probably about a year ago, and it has been sitting on some shelf. Very disappointing from my perspective to have wood go unsmoked. About six months ago I told him to pick up a checz ?? pipe tool, an ounce of tobacco and how to break it in. .... No action.
Finally this afternoon, he asked to drop by for a bowlful ... said the pipe was in his glove compartment. OMG, he actually showed up! Anyway, I guided best I could and soon we were puffing on some Red Fox. So the first goal was to get bottom cake in the pipe and he had a 1/3 bowl and was happily puffing away, few relights but doing well. He kept the pipe on the cool side etc. When he thought it was spent I prodded and told him No, there is more. So he did the relight thing and smoked on. Finally he felt it was spent, he dumped his ash and said it was all grey/white ash - all gone. I looked in the pipe and removed a full 1/4 inch of unsmoked tobacco, bare wood bottom with no cake or even scortching. Just clean briar.
Anyway he left with a few bowls and will attempt to cake the bottom. Actually he was pretty disappointed that it wasn't spent so I think he might take the lesson to heart. We'll see. Anyway, always good to share some smoke, wood and conversation and I will do my best to get this garhead up to par. I guess we have all been through this but to me it is all forgotten.

Was Peretti's BPC in a Peterson 999. I enjoyed the smoke but not the Cardinals game. When I turned it off, Milwaukee was giving them a thorough thrashing, 10-0.
Smokey
Some Balkan Sasieni in the Stanwell 19.

Yes the C&D blend was Briar Fox not Red Fox. Just call me stupid, but at least I am not color blind.
