Monday Meanderings
Early Monday, a congenial greeting to fellow smokers, and the celebration of Labor Day and the beginning, IMHO, of the best time of the year. Late Summer into the Autumn is like a confluence of all the varied streams of our earlier days in the year, hoping that some discernible patterns develop. The smoke of choice is a Cap'n Peterson #023 (apple) w/ some C&D prototype blend, somewhat harsher than I like but w/ body.
fair winds and full pipes.

I have enough Ashton Celebrated Sovereign left to last me the rest of the day. What will be popped after that is a mystery at the moment, and an issue will look into once we get to that point.
But for now, this fine blend will be smoldering for a little while longer in ...
... wait for it ...
An Ashton.
I think I will rather enjoy the rest of the day. It doesn't happen everyday that I get off of work early.
Cheers!

I slept in longer today than I have in a long time. I've loaded a Butz-Choquin Rocbrune with Old Joe Krantz and it sure is good.
Will be grilling steak and ribs this afternoon as we bid farewell to summer.

with some afternoon, Manhattan Afternoon to be precise. A very tasty blend, well behaved and packs a decent punch of nicotine. Ready to say good bye to the heat and humidity and New England's best season will soon be upon us here. Cool crisp mornings, beautiful days and cool evenings. This is the type of weather just made for a pipe and whatever you choose to smoke.

I have a decent load of Red Carpet in a Peter Klein bent apple. The apple itself is bent. The RC has improved as I've progressed through the tin. It's a tobacco that, were it food, I would have added salt & pepper. The flavour is there but just not coming to the fore. A delightful Spring Day, but unfortunately, a working day. Enjoy yours, dear fellows. From Emily Bronte, for the Northerners, a Fall poem:
Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night's decay
Ushers in a drearier day.
...today will get up to 88! Not normal. By Wednesday the high will be 74. Enjoying Captain Bob's in a L'Anatra Saddle Canadian. I bid you all a wonderful Holiday. Enjoy and be safe.

Glad to hear that you like Manhattan Afternoon. I cracked a tin a few months ago and was not impressed. There was just nothing to it. Morleysson recommended some age on all of the Simply Elegant Series, so I have tucked it away for a later date.

Was your tin fresh? Are you getting much flavor from it or is it really subtle?

Revor plug is still the only tobacco that gives me any satisfaction. The others (except brown no 4, that is just neutral) do taste very strange, and dark birds eye gives me a hell of a heart burn.
If I have not seen as far as others, it's because giants have been standing on my shoulders.
While Gustov reeks havok in New Orleans, and Hanna prepares to kick the east coast of Florida while it's still down, thank God, my part of the state seems to have dodged the bullet once again. We saw the fringe of Gustov come by yesterday, kind of blustery and quite gray and rainy but today you would never know anything was amiss. It's clear and a million (Capt Bob should be familiar with the term) and I'm enjoying one of my own project blends that seems to be coming along just fine. Life is good gentlemen, every day a holiday and every meal a feast. Speaking of feasts, I treated myself to a box of big Apalachicola oysters. A couple dozen of which will undoubtedly slide down my gullet at some point today washed down with a good cold beer. Enjoy your day!

Labor Day generally means time to think about rain. Lots of it for long periods of time. Actually makes for great pipe weather. (I'm ready.)
The coffee is made and I have started the day with a 50/50 mix of SG Black Pigtail and McClelland 2015 in a GBD poker.

Gorgeous day in these parts - I'm heading out on the patio to enjoy it. With a good book of course.

Hanging out at the pub across the street today. It is a cool 94 F with a nice breeze, so it is definitely patio weather. Therefore, I enjoyed a bowl of Edgeworth in the Peterson Army Billiard while enjoying pints of St. Arnold Oktoberfest, Guinness, and Sierra Nevada Anniversay Ale.
Unfortunately, I only brought one bowl of tobacco with me. The next pipe will have to wait until I get home.

Still at the pub, but I ran home and got a bunch of OGS and the Stanwell 245. I am set for the night. Cheers!

I admit it, finished the day with a bowl of Prince Albert in a KW 5051B. Damn fine smoke and a damn fine pipe, tough to beat on shear satisfaction. Does the trick every time, never fails and don't dare even ask why - it just does and that is really all I care about.

That is one combo that cannot be beat PERIOD. A four digit KW and some Prince Albert (The National Joy Smoke), If there's anything better the Almighty has kept it for himself. Me, I'm burning some Big n. Burley in my Chrishill. Here's to ya brother! Cheers!
My bride and I polished off a dozen oysters a piece tonight so I may heed Ben Franklin's advice about early to bed (and early to rise :))

Hope you all had a good holiday. I was one of the ones that had to work.
I shall smoke another bowl of PA in sympathy, same pipe. Late as it is, it is a before dinner smoke. Aids in the digestion, ya know.

Thanks. I think I'll smoke another bowl of PA in honor of your sympathy bowl of me having to work.
Captain Bob's and Two Friends Heritage, as usual. Rotated about 5 pipes today.
