Plans for Memorial Day Weekend?

Plans for Memorial Day Weekend?

As is my custom on Memorial Day, I take a vacation day on either side of it and end up with 5 days off. Friday around noon, I'm pointing the truck toward "The Redneck Riviera", "Lower Alabama" and driving the wife and my boy up to Fort Walton Beach for a couple days. My wife has family up there she's going to visit. While she's distracted with that, the boy and I will undoubtedly disappear to go wet a line. Should be a blast.

Sounds like fun

Hope you have a great time with your family over the holiday weekend, GI.

As for myself, I have four days off (never a bad thing) and the SO has a friend coming into town from Kansas City. We will spend part of the time hanging out here in San Antonio and part of it is Austin. It should be a fun, laid back weekend. Lots of tobacco will be smoked and lots of beer will be quaffed.

Fine thing you're doing GI

Taking a boy fishing is about the best education there is. The boy might learn something too. Sounds like a bit of a Huck Finn adventure. Codger/ Burley/ fishing poles/ dungarees/ catfish/ straw hats... do I have the right picture? Somehow I don't take you for one of those pretentious pastel-clad dinkies waving $700 fly rods for bonefish on the flats. Enjoy it bud.

Pompano and Redfish Off a Pier

Pompano and Redfish off a pier is more our style. He's at the age now he'd rather hang out with his girlfriend than some old coot but we always seem to have a good time. I'm convinced we've solved most of the worlds problems several times over and become much closer over the years fishing. One day I'll buy a boat and then we'll both be in trouble, work and school will both become bullshit irritants and life will be all about fishing (but I suppose that's true anyway, right?)

Life always has been

about fishing - it just takes some time to realise it. My boy & I have been fishing together since he could hold a rod. He's 26 now & still at school. But teaching. Fishing has kept us really close. Except in terms of fish caught. He fishes rings around me. Pees me off no end. Must say, we've never really solved any of the world's problems, we've always been to busy discussing what the f$$$ are they biting on.

As of right now....

Working Saturday morning... then a family BBQ Saturday afternoon. With the recent family drama that has been going on, this could prove to be a rather interesting event.

Outside of that, not sure what the remainder of the weekend will bring. Weather looks to be decent for the weekend, so there will certainly be some outside time, and plenty of bowls of tobacco enjoyed.

I'll be using the time off

I'll be using the time off to photograph some of my newest pipe aquisitions. My g'friend recently bought me a light box kit(see below)and I'm now working on taking more professional pipe pics.Getting the lighting right without "hot spots" on the pipes themselves has been the bigest challenge but it's coming along.....

I thougt memorial day was

I thougt memorial day was supposed to be a somber thing. We have rememberance day here, and that usually just envolves standing in the snow for 4 hours while you remember veterans...

And as to that, after the standing that is, it usually just envolved buying my grandfather a bottle of scotch and drinking it in blind to his friends who didn't make it through what we were remembering, as that is the prefered way to enjoy scotch.

Anyway, happy memorial day to my American friends.

For Memorial Day..

we'll take a trip to the FT Mitchell National Cemetery and pay our respects to those who served our nation. Hopefully, we can ride our scooters but if not, we'll be there anyway! For us, it's primarily a day of rememberance although we'll probably cook out that evening.

Me and my sister will

pay a visit to my fathers grave and after that burgers. For the time off aspect I will likely grab the TWTF next week and take a nine day stretch. Undoubtedly some things on the to-do list will get some attention but I do plan on spending much much time down in the dungeon and should the Briar gods shine upon thier not so favored son perhaps some wood will be transformed into a pipe or two.

However, if the strippers are early some line may see the ocean.

Chores and games!

I hooked up with an experienced Advanced Squad Leader player and another newbie. I already have a game scheduled with the former and with any luck I'll get a second game in with the other gentleman. I'm not hoping for a victory in this game - just hoping to not embarrass myself too badly. Other than that, I've got to get all the flowers in the beds, kill some weeds, read some books, and waste a lot of gasoline riding around in the forecasted sunshine! (hope they're right about the sunshine)
