Pulling a Page from Hitler's Book?
An interesting read concerning the historical basis of the current anti-tobacco hysteria.
Apparently the no smoking anywhere, ever, campaign is not a new idea. While I find the origins shocking, what I find even more shocking is the willingness of governments around the world to drink the Kool Aid and repeat the whole thing. I'm generally not a conspiracy nut but I find the whole idea absolutely disgusting. Sad that governments and many of the governed have ignored this unjust intrusion into the personal choices we make in our lives. Sadder yet that most of the sheeple will wake up only when it's too late.
"Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets and watched the smoke that rises from the pipes of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows?" T.S. Eliot

Hitler was also the first to initiate gun control. (Hobbyhorse dismounted again). And he was a vegetarian. Say no more.
He also had syphilis - or so the smart people speculate...

Walking down the streets of Milwaukee over the weekend, went to the Bruce Springsteen Concert, best concert I've ever seen and I've seen many, 4 hours long, I received many a dirty look from people for smoking my pipe in public. There were many people smoking things in pipes other than tobacco and they probably got less stares. Kinda feel like the odd man out.

Sure beats ciggs!
unfortunately, since the era of alcohol prohibition, government has improved their methods of social engineering. Reduction of the number of smokers was necessary as a first step, then the age of equality (smoking areas and non smoking areas), then local bans and once successful then State bans. Seems to me that this path was laid out in the late 60's and has been kept on track regardless of the politicians that we elect.
The sideshow about handling the population explosion was even scarier. While I would like to see the trend reverse and thought my castrate program was extreme that crackpot is just way off the deep end.
