Saturday 06 September 08 Whatcha Smokin

Starting the morning with some "Kicked Up Codger" I mixed this stuff up last night. I started with 5Edges (1:1 mix of five brothers and edgeworth) and added 25% perique. This stuff is the beast! Think I'll load my cob and go tend to some yard work before it gets ridiculously warm or starts to rain.

This morning...

it's Riverboat Gambler & Old Joe Krantz in a Butz-Choquin Rocbrune and some French roast to wake me up. This B-C is a terrific burley burner as it remains dry after multiple smokes and keeps its cool.

Good morning

TOTM in a Tinsky this morning. Getting ready for Hannah to dump some rain on us. It's almost noon, I should go get something done. As soon as I finish my pipe. Maybe.

1792 flake

I mentioned yesterday that I have bought some tobacco from an etailer in the uk, they had renamed all tobaccos there, so, 1792 flake was called ship mate flake..

quite funny, trying to figure out what tobacco it really is, 1792 is a dead give away though.

Happened to me a time or two.

I have bought new tobaccos after reading the description and thinking "sounds good". When I try it I discover it sounded good to me because I have a pound of it I bought under another name a few months before.

Cool and overcast here today but no rain yet. Today is going to be a Half & Half in an Armellini kind of day.

Evening smoke

is Billy Budd in the Pete 2008 POY. Yup, I bought it after all. Its a big pipe & smokes wonderfully. Shape-wise, a dead ringer for the 2004 POY, only bigger, so it keeps me busy for a while. Good early morning or after dinner pipe. Been a day of getting ready for my trip, visiting family, watching rugby, barbecueing, reading, shopping, dropping the pooch at the kennels, loafing. Pretty good. Enjoy yours.

Todays smoke.....and a story.

I had coffee with friends in a local restaurant early this morning. We were sitting in the smokers section (yes believe it or not we still have such a commodity). While waiting for my order I filled my pipe with an experimental blend consisting of local tobaccos and a healthy dose of Latakia. I mixed this while battling with nasal congestion and used a lot more Latakia than would normally because I could not really taste that well. I briefly lit up and took a few puffs, then put the pipe down and started drinking my coffee.
A group of four people walked in and one of the ladies loudly exclaimed: "God, it stinks in here". I knew she was referring to the pipe and at first wanted to politely point out to her that she was in the smokers area but then noticed that ALL of them were smokers! They sat down not too far from where we were sitting and I could hear that she was still mumbling about the smell.
So in an act of retaliation I lit up and relentlessly fumigated the premises untill her mumbling faded to nothing but a cowering whimper. Even the poor roaches crawled greenfaced out of the crevices. The best thing about it all is I really enjoyed it a lot.

I normally try to be a conciderate towards people that I know dislikes smoking and I don't ever smoke inside my own house because the wife and kids doesn't like it, but this ladies attitude pissed me off right from the start.

Hope ya'll enjoyed your day. It's 22:00 here now and I,m gonna hit the sack.

No fair tormenting the ladies!

I wish I could say I have somewhere I can take my pipe in public but there just is nowhere that I know of in my area besides the B&M. When I go there I always take something that smells ok in the hopes of luring some newbie over to a pipe before the call of a $6 cigar calls out to him/her. It nearly worked a while ago; I was sitting in the B&M and was innocently puffing away on MacBaren Navy Flake when this guy and his wife came in the store to look at cigars. The lady came right over to me and told me how wonderful my pipe smelled and then shot an intense stare at her husband which, unfortunately, he promptly ignored. I have no doubt she mentioned it to him again (and again) next time he stunk up the house with his cigars. Heh, heh, heh. *evil grin*

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: I'm in the mood to read with a good pipe this afternoon (something I've sorely missed these past few weeks - my reading being only sporadic due to my schedule). I'm feeling my L'Anatra Full Bent Dublin and some MacBaren Navy Flake ... yeah ... that sounds right.

And thats my story for the rest of the weekend! This storm is rushing up the east coast and I'm right in it's crosshairs so I'm hunkering down for the long haul. Hope it doesn't get too windy - I left the screen house in the backyard with roof in place ... if the wind gets too much over 30mph its likely to blow away. *fingers crossed*

Now, why can't they just tell their customers what the heck they are selling ? On the other hand, I would not have bought anything from hem if it was not for my curiosity. On the third hand, I won't be back for more... Ah, the intriquaties of marketing

Just back from a day

in central Connecticut was overcast, sticky and still. I have some Opening Night in the OO Billiard for a start. Kind of beat from doing nothing all day or maybe it is from pigging down quite a bit of food. Drive wasn't too bad either way, mostly clear but patches of some ridiculous wicked frog chokers.
