Thursday 28th August
Six in the evening, the Dunnies have arrived & I have Bayou Morning in a 41011 Shell Straight Apple. It's OK. Tobacco needs a little laying down, pipe has some ghosting. But the pipe is a little gem. Light as a feather, perfect draw, great finish. Here are some delightful delightful verses from Poetry Thursday (forgive the spacing) to put a smile on your chops:
Let me die a youngman's death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death
When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party
Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides
Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one
Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death

... the day at my desk with my Captain Bob's Full Flavor Blend from C&D. The aging is having a wonderful effect on this blend even though it has only been in the mason jars packed tight for about five weeks. I do notice the marrying of tobacco flavors. Very smooth.
This evening I'll enjoy C&D Two Friends-Heritage. It is such a comfortable Virginia blend (and I love Virginias). It could easily be an all day smoke, as well.
Got my Peterson System pipe. It's a great smoker but these system collect a ton of juice and I won't by another system pipe. I smoke it a couple times and give it a couple days of rest.
Also, I have my Savinelli 7 1/2 inch Canadian and my L'Anatra 7 incher with me. So, I must exercise caution when walking near walls and turning my head. When driving, I must keep the window open if looking left! I learned that the hard way.
Have an enjoyable day with your pipes and tobacco, gentlemen.

Hey All,
Been traveling the past month. Today it is HB and SWR in the Sav.
That and some sleep. Flew in at 2am (delayed flight) and had to be back in the office by 8:30.
with a System pipe is to remove the stem & shake the juice out. That's actually the advantage of the system. Apart from the fact that one can buy replacement stems.

... but it just makes such a mess on my white carpet!

Ok, my taste buds are back to normal ... so I gave this tobac a shot during lunch ... still smooth (no tongue bite). Thats a Godsend. But the flavor is nothing like what it was when fresh (unaged) ... its just kind of flat and bland. I dunno. This is totally unexpected. Maybe my taste buds aren't totally back to normal ... I'll keep working with it but so far I'm not happy with the results of this experiment. So sad.

I had a Savinelli (Brandy glass bowl)Tundra which saw action with OJK, RG, and C&D's VA Flake. I'm taking it easy now with a Sav. reject and some OJK.

11 tins of C&D tobacco received today and I made a decision to open one in less than 5 minutes. Upon removing them all from th box along with a few other blends my mind started to nag at me. Which one do you want to try first? Better review the reviews, check the descriptions, etc. etc. I knew that about an hour was about to be wasted. No not again! Throwing all care into the wind I just pulled a tin from the stack and just popped the top. As fate would have it, it was a flake. Probably because most of the order was flake and this one is Interlude. The two paper lids under the first paper lid through me a curve. Turned out to be a paper cup kind of setup, not sure what that is all about. Seems about as
useful as a girl with three pairs of panties. Not to tarry on something so important I got right down to the business end of a bulldog, packed 3/4 of a bowl and place the flame to it. Tin aroma, didn't bother. Moisture level, well it is lit and going very well. Taste, well that is the most important.
The first few puffs I thought it was going to be a bit nippy. Well maybe it is or will be but I tend to feel that it is just sharp and tangy. Tangy enough to make me think thar be some perique in this blend. There is no soft sweet grass/hay tones it is close to Rattray's Hal' O de Wynd. Also packs quite a Nic Hit, beads on the brow and almost a case of the hiccups.
Second half of the bowl and the stuff has really tamed down. It turned into a very smooth smoke and I believe it will remain that way for the rest of the bowl.
Hope you all enjoy the evening.
Fume in pace, ckr
when I came home I dod not bother to smoke, an indication that all is not right... after a few hours of sleep, I got me a bowl of FVF.
today I would not have mind if it had been a little bit fuller.
later on I smoked a mix of black pigtail, some BnB and some scraps of FVF, smoked ok, but this time it was mainly the nicotine I was after..
If I have not seen as far as others, it's because giants have been standing on my shoulders.
Tonight, some SG St. James Flake in a Stanwell 53.
