The god of thunder...
Anyway, Just opened a Tin of McClelland - Dark star.
Jet black, moist, like liqourice.
I rubbed some out, packed and lit it. Now enjoying a sweet cool VA :)
no notion of ketchup. characteristics are not that far off from FVF.
My intetion with this tobacco was to blend it out with some perique, smoking it now, that feels utterly pointless.
mmmm, I like this one!

The day's work is done & I have Haunted Bookshop in A Pete Sherlock Holmes Rathbone. Just had a nasty dose of TAD which totally ran away with itself. The hassle of course is shipping costs to SA - these are about 25% of the cost of the baccy. Admittedly, there were a lot of tins. But a lot of them were 8ozers. Oh well, that's the cost of living in paradise (like hell). A much more productive day, also working at home, of necessity (apart from the TAD). Weatherwise, the day has been the proverbial peach - warm & sunny. Enjoy your day.
Blended some GH - Dark Birdseye with about 20-30 % of McClelland perique.
Now this... this is.... STRONG!!!
This one is surely something for the old GI. someone who likes the violent kick in the @ss when it comes to nicotine and richness of a tobacco!
*whipes off a large amount of sweat from face*
EDIT
Now this was the fastest bowl I have smoked for a long time.. I just could not seem to slow down either...
25 minutes and I was getting ashes in my mouth, and a very full taste of vanilla!
Need to smoke another bowl... but I think it is wise to wait an hour or so

but I had a Savinelli Porto Cervo pot with the last of Scots Heather...I believe it was Riverboat Gambler which started the day.
I'm exhausted and ready to settle down with the good Mr. Krantz in a pipe yet to be chosen. Thank God I'm off tomorrow!

Have smoked my prototype blend most of the day (probably 5 bowls or so in by now) this little project is coming along famously but a few minor adjustments are still forthcoming. I did pause for a bowl of Big n Burley late in the afternoon then went right back to SR v.2 (my blend). All smoked out of 4 digit KWs, the Whitehall Apple, and a no name Danish bent pot with a really nice comfortable wide bit on it.
I've got blending perique on hand so I may need to go down and visit old dude down in Palm Harbor and see if I can score some GH Dark Birdseye. That sounds like a lovely late afternoon, boot me through the goal post smoke.

please report back :)
I have now smoked my third bowl of Dark star, this time I let it dry a bit. It rubs out rather easily.
This tobacco will be on my steady list, a true VA heaven !

in the fishing pipe, the little pucker can handle about anything that is thrown in it. Think the plug kicked a bit harder but this stuff packs a good punch also.
Cleaned and reamed 5 tonight with five more to go. Then I am back to a full rotation, can't wait - some of my favs have been sitting too long.
Fume in pace, ckr
It's been a good 30 years or so since I last owned a cob. Bought me one this evening while running around with my son. He asked me what I was doing and I said, the other codgers are making fun of me cuz I don't own a cob pipe. Of course step one was to remove the cardboard and wax goo trap and toss it. Step two was load and fire. These things really are great little smokes and you sure can't beat the price. May have to look into a couple more of these. Right now I'm smoking the prototype but a codger burley is next in line. I'm thinking 5 Edges. Good show with the cob, this thing smokes like a champ!

This tobacco packs a different kind of NIC kick - nowhere as strong as tobaccoreviews would have you believe but it is a deep, full buzz none the less. As with the rope I tried last weekend slow and easy is the way to go.
Let's talk flavor. There is an earthy flavor to this tobacco. I honestly don't know what the ingredients are. I don't taste Va. I don't taste Burley. Frankly I don't recognize anything I'm familiar with. Is it good? Well its not bad but its also not outstanding either.
The oft lamented tonquin bean topping gives a nice side stream but I can't imagine the smell of the smoke would be a crowd pleaser. I just wish I could taste it!
So. Bottom line? Not bad. Not outstanding either. Smokable? By all means and certainly worth a try.
I hot one am glad I had the chance to try it.

... puffin Captain Bob's Full Flavor Blend (CBFFB)in my quarter bent Savinelli sandblast pot. And a little Two Friends Heritage in between, too. This pipe has to be 25 years old! Most of my pipes are very old. But, I'm only 58. It pays to start smoking a pipe at a young age. I think of that often when I read of all the experimentation you guys go through with tobacco.
Nothing wrong with that. Hell, I did for a very long time, too. But, there is something comforting about being content with what I smoke.
Gonna place my order for five more pounds of CBFFB. Gotta get another case of mason jars before the fall canners buy them all off the shelves. Have a great night, everybody. Enjoy your comfort smokes!
