Tuesday on the Pipe

Tuesday on the Pipe

A cool Spring day finds St James Flake in a Radice bulldog. The wind has abated for now & the air carries the sound of birdsong & the nearby schoolyard. But the sky is remains hazy, rain must be on the way sometime soon, in spite of what the weatherman says. Hi ho, it's off to work I go (& that is all the poetry you'll have from me today, I'm afraid). Enjoy your day.

Since Yesterday was a Holiday

This is a technical Monday. Clearing the cob webs with Big n Burley out of my freakishly hideous rhodesian. Not much to look at but gee whiz it sure is a peach of a smoke.

Morning, All

While officially not yet Autumn, I am happy that we can get down to the joys of another season. Promising warm today, the morning is still pleasant, about 67F. The Sun arrives later and my office window is only now in full light. I had a bowl of 'Gambler this AM in the Reynolds Rouser, hoping that SWSL would not speak at all for a bit, but she did remind me for the 10 to the nth time that painting the living room would be inherently a 'good thing'. Fortunately, like a crucifix to a vampire, the Rouser held off the latest onslaught of domestic cosmetics.

A poem from Gerard Manley Hopkins to start the day:

Hurrahing in Harvest
SUMMER ends now; now, barbarous in beauty, the stooks arise
Around; up above, what wind-walks! what lovely behaviour
Of silk-sack clouds! has wilder, wilful-wavier
Meal-drift moulded ever and melted across skies?

I walk, I lift up, I lift up heart, eyes,
Down all that glory in the heavens to glean our Saviour;
And, éyes, heárt, what looks, what lips yet gave you a
Rapturous love’s greeting of realer, of rounder replies?

And the azurous hung hills are his world-wielding shoulder
Majestic—as a stallion stalwart, very-violet-sweet!—
These things, these things were here and but the beholder
Wanting; which two when they once meet,
The heart rears wings bold and bolder
And hurls for him, O half hurls earth for him off under his feet. "

Fair winds on your journey today.

brown pigtail

this small "lady pipe" that I have cleaned extensively is doing a great job. "She" gets a bit hot along the curves, but that is to be expected from a such a lady :)

A great smoke

Hey!

Isn't brown pigtail chewing tobacco? I've heard of others rinsing the casing off Red Man (a chewing tobacco) and smoking it. Would expect it results in a manly man burley with enough nicotine wollop for an Army. Is that about what brown pigtail is like?

A vacation day either side of labor day has been a custom since I left the AF (three years ago yesterday). It's quite nice on a regular work day to be pulling on a cold Busch Beer and smoking some Big n Burley.

Read somewhere that the pigtail was for the children, who worked the mines. grown ups chewed/smoked the other ropes.

Unofficial Monday

Yes, since yesterday was a holiday for some of us, today is a Monday. However, tomorrow is my Friday, so going back to work after the three-day weekend was pretty easy for me. The SO and I are headed to New York for an extra long weekend in the city. I cannot wait . . . I love that town. In the meantime, I will be smoking some MacBaren Blueberry Flake in the Stanwell 245.

Cheers!

Evening Gents,

Today I am taking a flake break with a Canadian and some McClelland Oriental #14. The rotation is getting pretty slim due to my reluctance to sit and clean the herd. I have 2/3 clean and 1/3 in need so I am finding things a bit limited. Time to sh!t or get off the pot.

Enjoying that last few minutes of sunshine out on the patio earlier this evening. Ah ... Fall is surely coming - before I finished the pipe I was getting a bit chilled (the patio is made of cement and stone and is always cool but now its just a tad cooler).
