Wednesday 27th August Smokes
Mine is Old Joe Krantz in a Pete 1/8 bent Dublin this early Spring afternoon. 27c outside & quite perfect. Here's DH Lawrence:
This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes,
Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between
Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes.
I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration,
Faces of people streaming across my gaze.
And I, what fountain of fire am I among
This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed
About like a shadow buffeted in the throng
Of flames, a shadow that’s gone astray, and is lost.

I'm on a "get rid of the tobacco dust" rampage. I'm still at work, so I'm not completely sure what crumbs I have that need to be smoked. I think there's a pouch of Mac Baren Scottish Mixture in the bunch, so some of that might be what the doctor ordered. I seem to recall a tin of EMP as well. All will be revealed once I get home.

This morning Green River Vanilla (C&D) from a Gefapip Apple. Late this morning Big n. Burley from a Whitehall Grand National. Both good smokes. Not to worry, I'm not turning into an aromatic guy (perish the thought) but smoked the GRV as part of "an academic endeavor"
Oh and by the way, those Penzance puffing windbags over at Pipes.Org can piss off. Literary references to DH Lawrence and Dylan Thomas in the same month? We are a pensive cultured bunch, despite appearances to the contrary. Best pipe site on the internet no doubt. Allow me to retort using William Wordsworth:
"My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky;
So was it when my life began
So is it now I am a man
So be it when I shall grow old
Or let me die!
The child is father of the man:
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety"
"Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets and watched the smoke that rises from the pipes of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows?" T.S. Eliot
this plug has 'aged' a bit in a jar, is a bit milder and sweeter, might just be the lower moistness level.
still stout and potent however
If I have not seen as far as others, it's because giants have been standing on my shoulders.

TAD, package should be here tomorrow and I will be moving off the Briar Fox to check out some of the C&D flakes I picked up over the weekend. In addition there are a few bulks, specifically

in a rusticated Bings Favorite. What a pleasant way to end the day! I need a steady (readily available) VA for those moments I crave a VA smoke...perhaps C&D #525. I think that is what Watch City Cigar sold me about a year ago...when I re-ordered, he was all out so I gave up on the idea :(

Thought I would give one a shot, he makes 2 other flakes both VA/Per's. I figure if the VA is good I will give the others a go also. Not to mention a few SmokeStack blends there too. I'll see how they do ... err rather how I do after smoking them. However, I don't have a 3 inch chimney so I just may survive. :-)

I need a VA fix ... McClelland 5100 in a Cob should do the trick. Too many chores left me no time for smokes. Rats. Well, maybe my taste buds are working again! Hope so.
