wednesday smokes, die mittwoche

woke quite early this morning, around 4 am or so..

started out with a bowl fo H&H, followed by a bowl of Billy Budd, this time in a newly reamed meer, a bit stronger today, might be that there where no cake left/more tobacco present. Dunno, still tasty though, even though the latakia came out a bit more, the beast did not overwhelm me.

Now drinking a cup of black tar/traktor oil like coffee, and smoking some 2/3 parts H&H plus 1/3d of Big n Burley.

Mid-morning smoke

is Balkan Sobranie Original Mixture (I've stocked up, he he) in a Tim West bulldog. Very nice too, on a champagne day on the highlands. Stieltje, it appears that the Burleyphiles have turned you - you're even waking up at an unearthly hour like Morleysson! I shudder to think what comes next. Kaywoodies? Diatribes against Obama? A sudden urge to listen to 1970's mid-West country music? A beard?

Actually

The urge for a hat gripped me again this morning.

I almost ordered one from http://www.thefedora...

Returning stuff to the US if unhappy is a bit of a PITA though.

On a further note, no, I can't stay away from that bag of H&H, its to damn yummy.

Despite my tobacco glut...

I chose to have Old Joe Krantz with me this morning on the ride to work, along with a cup of traditional American gas station coffee.
I'm packing a Butz-Choquin brown Brumaireand it will be loaded with Pegasus much of the day. Lately the mornings are cool here in the state of Connecticut.

Hump day and some fine tobaks...

Started the day right with C&D Riverboat Gambler(RG). Got a little Half & Half (H&H) in the bowl right now for comparison. In my personal opinon, having smoked H&H for so many years before finding C&D, I prefer RG to H&H. They really are not all that far apart to my taste and liking. RG is much smoother and burns much cooler. For me it's worth the price difference. On the other hand, if price is the concern for RG, I would not hesitate to recommend H&H to you.

Mr. Runowski smokes some H&H. Bob, I'd like to know if you also find a pleasing similarity as I have (RG vs H&H)?

Riverboat gamler

Well, with all the good reviews on that one, I better get some. Along with some Walnut.

I revisited FVF today, as long as that one is around, full time codgering just isn't an option.

As long as I am satisfied, I could not care less who's name is on the tin, or what variety of different tobaccos its contents is composed off.

I still want a hat tho, but the one Dan has on his photo isn't really what I am after ;) I am sorry, but if you ever find it, you are probably stuck with it :)

You'd look good

with Dan's hat! Honestly, it takes balls and/or a large dose of alcohol to wear that thing ;-)

Happy puffing /Jesper

stieltje, Fedora Store

I just received a hat from fedorastore.com last week. It was a good experience, though their shipping costs run higher than average.

Lazy, lazy and lazy.

Just how I feel and I can hardly say this summer has hit its dog days. Just seems right to load up a Dr.G with some good old PA and have a go at it. Was thinking of heading into the dungeon ... Oh so lazy.

Gearing down...

with Scots Heather in a Peterson second. I have to laugh as I got this pipe in a junk shop and it smokes unreal.
Pegasus was todays main fare and I'll gladly recommend it to you burleyphiles out there. If I couldn't get OJK anymore, I'd consider this as a stand in.

Ricky,

This is like the Hale Bop Comet, we smoked the same kind of tobacco today. That probably won't happen again until 2035. My afternoon smoke today was none other than Old Gowrie. Of course I sandwiched it between a bowl of Walnut and a bowl of Edgeworth, currently I'm enjoying some of the National Joy Smoke (the last bowl from a pouch). If there is such a thing as a codger virginia, I think Old Gowrie would be it. It just seems much easier to smoke than most va's I have sampled but alas, like the rest it is an occassional smoke at best for me as nothing can run with a good old burley kick in the teeth.

Muddler,
Surely you've got me on satelite survellance. My codgerfication is nearly complete as I now wake up without benefit of an alarm way before sunrise. The rest is all in place, codger burlies, hate Karl Marx...uh I mean Obama, have a beard and yes I do fancy some good classic hillbilly music (George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, etc.) All that remains is the habit of constantly wearing a fedora or other dress hat as in to work, socially, etc. The ball cap (9th Bomb Squadron or Tampa Bay Buccaneers) is still preferred on casual day with the requisite flower shirt or for extended outdoor activities (fishing and such). The fedora store is one of the many tools of the devil. Every time I visit I see about a dozen hat's I'd like to buy unfortunately I can't afford to even pay attention right now. Maybe for my birthday in October. (coincidentally, annual bonuses come out that month) surely the Almighty has ordained me to wear a brown fedora.

Sort of a strange funny story that is sort of related. A friend of mine had a grandfather who suffered from Alzheimers and was living at a nursing home. The staff at the nursing home had a problem with the man constantly wandering off. You see, the old man had spent most of his life on a farm in rural Louisiana and was quite accustomed to morning and evening walks and much preferred the outside to the inside. Of course once he stepped out the door, due to his medical condition, it was not uncommon for him to forget who he was, where he was at and how to get back. The staff of the hospital tried everything to keep him from wondering off. Finally one day when my friend came to visit her grandfather, one of the staff approached her and asked what they could possibly do to keep her grandfather from wandering off. She quickly replied, "Hide his hat" You see being an old southern gentleman, he wouldn't dream of being seen outdoors bare headed. Amazingly the old man no longer wandered off when he suddenly couldn't find his hat.

P.S. Prince Albert is the coolest thing since the 66 Mustang, this stuff rules, it really does.

Afternoon Smoke

Hey All,

Haven't had a moment to breathe lately. I've been reading but not much time for posting. H&H in a cherry--after all the reading about H&H and alternate woods, I could not resist. Very nice combo.

Sitting back with a bowl of

Sitting back with a bowl of Walnut in a Peterson system pipe. Long day at work, only made enjoyable with a quick bowl of Half&Half when time permited.

Early this AM

I started with Kingfisher in a Peterson St. Pat's Day. Now the same Pete loaded with some FVF.
