Why do I like racing green so much?

Why do I like racing green so much?

http://www.frenchysp...

At least my attacks of pad or more reasonable then most, lol. I'm so cheap.

Edit: Jul. 23, 2008 Currency Conversion (credit) To U.S. Dollar From Canadian Dollar Completed Details $82.50 USD
Jul. 23, 2008 Currency Conversion (debit) From Canadian Dollar To U.S. Dollar Completed Details -$85.58 CAD

When I was a kid 62 cents american was worth a dollar ... wow, it's almost equal now, factor in the different cost in living and America is like Canada's mexico now. Where people lack basic health care, it's dangerous, and you can buy everything cheap. LOL (Just joking)

I had a Peterson BRG

I had a Peterson BRG calabash and wasn't overly happy with it. It smoked very hot from the first bowl. I had marginal success when smoking EMP in it but it was never a stand out. Strangely I ended up selling it on e-bay and it brought almost as much as I paid for it new. I'll likely never own another Pete as I found a rather large red fill in a Sherlock Holmes comemorative that I paid a fairly large sum for. For the price point in their lower end pipes I just find Stans to be superior...

Best,
D.J.

Speaking of Exchange Rates

Did you know, that it takes 2.5 MILLION Zimbabwe Dollars to make a single George (US dollar). Man! and they say the U.S. dollar isn't worth anything.

I find that green seems do

I find that green seems do very well on a pipe. It is a natural color, trees, grass etc. while browns are wood, earth and dead leaves. Could be it represents two seasons, whatever, for me it works too.

I'm a billionaire

I have a $50 BILLION note in a desk drawer. Zimbabwe $. I don't think it's worth that much more than a couple of US$. Sadly. Inflation is so wild - like 100% every week or so, it's difficult keeping track.

hmmm...

you sure that isn't a 50 million note?...otherwise...can I buy it for a few bucks (i'd be short changing you just short of $20,000 US) but still...their inflation has gone crazy apparently they are having problems coming up with enough currency to meet the needs.

as far as peterson racing greens go...

I have never been a huge fan of peterson...I am not sure why...their shapes are just too chubby for me...I think...but as far as the color goes...I think I need to see it in person...but prom the pictures...I am not terribly stoked on it either...oh well to each his own...I'll keep my stanwells and you keep your petersons and we'll both be happy...haha

Cheers,

Josh

I'm late on this one

Jeeze, how did I miss this thread? I thought I'd seen 'em all.

I was always curious about green pipes. I had been looking at the green petes for a while when Ckr gave me the Bullfrog (Green 3/4 Bent Bulldog / Dublin crossover with a diamond shank and a clear stem - oh I love that pipe, just mentioning it puts me in the mood to smoke it). Well, it was love at first sight on that pipe and I can tell you that IMNSHO (look it up on the abbreviations thread) that green definately works on a pipe. Pictures don't do the color justice. They need to be seen in person.

Anyway, congrats on the new pipe. I love the dark green to almost black coloration of the grain. Very nice. May you smoke it in good health for many years to come!

I believe

there are two billions depending on how you count.

There is a million millions but there is also 1000 millions that equal a billion. Who would have thought the PC establishment could screw up a number.

The green Sav...

It looks like a nice pipe. A pipe should be nice to look at. I am as Irish as Patty's Pig but I don't have a green pipe. I should think about it.

I'm more into naturals, waxing and polishing between smokes. It's amazing how they darken.

I've tried Meerchaum and have two. But, I was never satisfied with the smoke or coloration. One must be very careful to get a "good" meer with the proper draw. One is a nude and the other a head of Bachus. Both look good but are not good smokers.

I have a Pete/System full bent. I like it and it smokes fine. But there are two drawbacks. The lip-bit with the hole on top is hard to hold in my mouth comfortably. Also, it is wet due to the system. When dumping tobacco, you dump juice, too. I like the pipe style but I will not buy another system again. I'm a huge Sherlock fan and have all the original Basil Rathbone series on DVD. I purchased them a year ago when they came out restored on DVD. I think I got them on Amazon. I recommend the series for any fans out there.

Intrigued

I am intrigued by green pipes. I have looked at the Petes before, but that whole brand is falling out of favor with me.

That green Sav looks pretty cool, but I don't really dig the crystals on the front of the bowl.

Yea, I took another look at it. Had missed the jewels. Don't care for that. It would make a nice ladies pipe, though. Not for me.

Maybe if you're a flashy kind of jewelry guy, but this just doesn't turn my prop.

Can't bear the green

Why anyone would want to paint a beautiful piece of wood is beyond me - unless it's not a beautiful piece of wood. I would have bought the 2008 St. Pat's day pipe had it not been painted. So irresponsible of them. Talking of which (mounts hobby horse), I've been collecting the Pete POY's. I've refused to buy the 2008 model since it is a replica of the 2004 model. What a bloody swiz! I was horrified. Yet both the 2006 & 2007 (especially) are magnificent pipes. Don't know what's got into the Paddy's, but its not cricket. Must be this EU stuff.

It's definitely Z$50 billion (i.e. 50 000 000 000). It was given to me by a colleague. I can assure you it's worth < USD10 (someone is checking for me - it's a real time thing). Don't be fooled by official exchange rates - they're rubbish. Corrupt officials use them to make massive forex gains for personal benefit. Kills the local, foreign-owned mines (export, bring in USD, exchange at official rate).

Stained not painted!

Painted Muddler? No they're not. They're stained green for sure. Go look at the pics ... you can see the grain through the stain. *confused*

OK, you're right,

I'm so biased, I didn't even look. My point is that it isn't a 'true' wood finish. Now everyone's going to tell me that ALL briar is stained & I'm being unreasonable. Sure. I just don't like green briar or red briar or yellow briar or purple briar or ....

Temptation was just too much.

ALL briar is stained & you are being unreasonable.

I hear that Green, Red, Yellow, & Purple don't like you either! Heck, even Blue doesn't think very highly of you. But Brown and Tan speak very highly of you. Now Puce is a different story all together and don't even think of Aquamarine!

LOL

Took a little time today...

to sit alone and quiet on my screen porch to smoke Two Friends-Heritage in my Savinelli 7 and 1/4 inch Canadian whilst I paged through a back issue of P&T mag. Wouldn't you know it, there in an add was those Purple, Green and Black Sav's with the three rhinestones (or whatever) stuck in the bowl. I thought, if I had a girl friend that smoked a pipe, I might consider buying it for her as a gift. But, I don't have a girl friend because I having something much better... a lovely wife who is a non-smoker and prefers the diamonds on her finger and not on a pipe!

nice colour

but the bowl looks to high, narrow and thin walled...

might have been a nice forest pipe otherwise.
