Tobacco and Onions!
No, I'm not recomending a new blend. This forum is about food and tobacco ...
A number of months ago I posted (blog/forum?) about how various foods destroy the flavors of a good bowl of tobacco. Highest on my list was / is onions. If I eat anything containing onions (raw much worse than cooked, but still both) I can't taste anything but soot for hours even if I brush and gargle like crazy. This has been a long running thing for me.
Well, last night I had some Chicken Chow Mein and some Chicken Fried Rice ... both heavy in onions. I knew that I wouldn't be able to taste anything but darn it, I was just in the mood for a pipe! So, I just grabbed the next pipe/tobacco combo due up in the rotation (Caminetto Bent Bulldog / McClelland 5100) and lit up. Now here's the confusing part ... that was the most wonderful bowl of 5100 I've had in a long time ... the VA flavor was so intense!
What gives?????
Any idea whats happening here? I'm at a total loss to explain it.

Could it be the MSG in the chow? ;-)

its unfortunately toothpaste. My bowl on the way to work each morning is trashed by the toothpaste.
I don't think anyone would like the result if I did away with toothpaste so I can best enjoy my morning smoke, so I'll just have to deal...

Jari - good thought but the chinese food was ordered without MSG. Nice try!
Bob - didn't brush my teeth this time - I was sure the results would be bad either way so what the heck, I just went for it without brushing (shh, don't tell my dentist!)

I wonder what MSG would do to tobacco. Light up my umami!

gotten past the ketchup, an aromatic and now onions. Whatever it is, you are making great strides. Don't stop - Just keep it up buddy. Anyway the end result was the smoke with the 5100 seemed enhanced by either the onions, Chow Mein and possible not brushing. I could be, err.. rather I just am, weird but after a meal I don't run for the toothpaste especially if I want a after dinner smoke.
I think, what gives is our taste buds are livened by a meal - anyway it sounds good.
Fume in pace, ckr
Somethin in that chinese... maybe the soy sauce they put in chow mein mixes well with the McC Ketchup... whatever, who cares... it worked right ?
