Damn, I still need to sample March's TOTM ...

I'm going to skip Escudo totally I think ... I'm digging into the Fribourg & Treyer stash this weekend ... talk about being late on a review. *doh*

Escudo

What do you pay for cumstom (TOLD PÅ DANSK),
when you live in Denmark or Sweeden?

If you get caught in

If you get caught in customs, you will pay extra fees but, it will only be slightly more expensive than the price of a tin in Denmark.

Most of the time I don't have to pay anything because customs can't check all packages.

Escudo

To slartie (Lars Wiberg)

About 3 weeks ago I received a big parcel
with tobaccos from www.ff-pipes.com (Denmark).

A very good place to buy.

Tins for half a year.

The only tobacco missing was Escudo.

I got this message from the very nice lady in the shop:

"Escudo is no longer avaiable, but I have My Own Blend excu100 g 116,00 kr , it is made after the old reciept"

(In danish:"Escudo er udgået men jeg har MOB excu 100 g 116,00 kr, den er lavet efter den gamle opskrift.")

You have written a good article about Dunhill and Orlik.
Does Sherlock Holmes still exist?
Where is Escudo put into tins?
Denmark?

I know FF pipes well. I shop

I know FF pipes well. I shop with them very often. Inge is a nice lady, and always eager to help

I am not familiar with Sherlock Holmes. What brand was it?

Escudo is quite possibly still made in Denmark by Orlik, like so many other blends. Even though they are made in Denmark, 50 blends or more are purely for export.

Feel free to contact me with a "Send PM" if you would like some Danish pipe talk :)

I'm getting close to

I'm getting close to emptying the first tin of TOTM and so far my conclusion is: not as good as Three Nuns. It might be because I'm into a bit heavier VA/Per that Three Nuns might be. They just might be on the same level, but I find that it's more pronounced in Three Nuns. The VA in Escudo might be the culprit, I'm not sure. Another tin of this might reveal that. If not I will simply have to order more Escudo and keep sampling :)

One tin down

None to go though..

I do like this tobacco, even though I do find that much to say about it. I am quite happy to have tried it. After my dedicated escudo pipe got a good reaming, this tobacco gave a real taste explosion, but burned a great deal hotter. Strange thing.

anyway, nice sweet VA's in there, an amount of perique that I seem to like. nothing wrong, but really nothing much to write home about either. I like the stronger stouter blends, and this one is a bit to mild for me in a way, even though the taste is semi full.

It was an interesting smoke due to the fact that I am currently investigating the properties of perique.

Cheers

It's good

but it's not great. When I first opened the tin, I was rather disappointed by the first bowl. It seemed to lack body, depth. As the month progressed, it seems to have improved significantly. It is good. But I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire a stash of it. It's not McB NF.

That my view. 2c
