Flake Descriptions: ( taken from www.tobaccoreviews.c... )
McClelland Virginia #22 A balanced of Eastern and Middlebelt Virginias aged in cakes to develop their natural sweetness. A zesty tobacco with rich undertones, coarse enough to smoke on windy days outdoors, but easily rubbed-out to suit any occasion.
Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug A full bodied, medium to full strength pressed flake. Very complex from start to finish with a well balanced taste that both boldly spicy and subtlety sweet.
Dunhill Early Morning Pipe Sweet Oriental carefully blended with Bright and Red Virginias, pressed and lightly stoved. Great as the `first pipe` arousing the palate for the further pleasures of the day.
A&C Peterson Escudo Navy De Luxe This old classic is a Perique/Va curley cut tobacco.
Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake Made the same as Best Brown, choice Virginia Leaf pressed to a rich brown color & flavor.
Orlik Golden Sliced A blend of golden, fully ripe virginia leaves from the traditional districts of the United States. Natural sweetness and freshness.
Peter Stokkebye (Orlik) Luxury Navy Flake Very mature Old Belt flue-cured Virginia's spiced with Louisiana Perique.
Rattray's Marlin Flake A companion to Old Gowrie. A shade darker, greater strength, different aroma, but otherwise a tobacco in the same tradition.
MacBaren Mixture Scottish Blend A mild and lightly aromatic Scottish Blend, manufactured from ready rubbed, matured Virginia tobaccos and golden brown Burley grades, Cavendish and loose, ripe Virginia. Mixture is one of the most popular pipe tobaccos in the world, and is the leading brand tax free. A position which Mixture has been able to maintain through decades.
MacBaren Navy Flake A mild flake blended from the finest Burley tobaccos with added ripe Virginia’s and Cavendish. Navy Flake is light burning, making the lighting of the pipe very easy.
Esoterica Tobacciana Penzance A wonderful complex secret recipe of the finest Virginia, choice Turkish and Orientals and Cyprian Latakia, all hand blended together, hard pressed and broad cut into thick flakes. Long matured and easily crumbled to facilitate pipe filling.
Solani Silver Flake An incredible blend of premium dark red and sweet virginias from the "border belt", light yellow Virginia from South Carolina and dark-fired, spicy Kentucky. Slow burning and because no flavoring has been added, this blend has a real tobacco taste.

Ok guys, thats a pretty awsome list. I'm excited to try many of them that I've not sampled before. I think with this list we really have a good chance to add some awsome tobaccos to our personal favorites this year!

I was just wondering what next month's blend will be and then I got to thinking about this whole TotM thing. Remember the original idea for this year was that we share all our favorite blends with each other hoping to find some top notch new blends? Well, I have to tell you its absolutely working for me.
Feb '08: McClelland Virginia #22
I already loved McClelland #22 - no gain there.
Mar '08: Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug
F&T CVP was an eye opener for me - it took me a bit to learn how to pack it for optimal flavor but now that I have it its in my top 10 list. This was a huge add and I plan to add many tins to the cellar shortly.
Apr '08: Dunhill Early Morning Pipe
This is one I've wanted to try for a long time now - while I didn't find it outstanding, I'm very glad I had the chance to test it finally.
May '08: A&C Peterson Escudo Navy De Luxe
This was always yak for me ... didn't give it a chance this time around - basically I dodged this bullet. Many like it, but I'm not big into perique.
Jun '08: Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake
One of my dessert island tobaccos ... nothing new for me but it had been many months since I had a tin open. This forced me to buy a new tin and test it again - and man was I sooooo very satisfied again.
Jul '08: Orlik Golden Sliced
So many of us smoke this ... but even still I'm looking forward to it next month.
Aug '08: Orlik (Peter Stokkebye) Luxury Navy Flake
Got it waiting for Aug 1st ... will definately go for it.
Sep '08: Rattray's Marlin Flake
A tin is sitting on the 'try me shelf' ... need will power ... I WILL hold off testing this until September. (feeling weak already)
Oct '08: MacBaren Mixture Scottish Blend
Well ... you all know how I feel about aros ... will likely dodge this bullet. Hope some of you will enjoy it though.
Nov '08: MacBaren Navy Flake
For the first time in years I actually do not have any NF open right now. I've been totally in love with this blend for a LONG time ... I'm looking forward to Nov 1st to open a new tin.
Dec '08: Esoterica Tobacciana Penzance
Ckr says its awsome ... I tried it and hated it ... don't know yet if I'll buy a tin or not ...
Jan '09: Solani Silver
Got a tin on my 'try me shelf' ... I sampled a little of Chris' once and don't remember what I thought of it ... I really want to like this blend. Don't know why I feel that way ... but I REALLY want to like it.
====================
So, talk to me guys ... in your opinion, was this idea of sampling each other's favorite blends a good idea so far?
Rick Piatt
This is working great for me as well. So far I have only missed out on F&T CVP simply because I completely forgot to order some. But hey, I have the other 11 months covered.
