Borkum Riff Genuine
After posting about my early smoking days in the "What are your phases" topic, I went to the Borkum Riff website for the hell of it. They now have an unflavored blend of VA and burley call Borkum Riff Genuine. If I see a pouch of this, I think I will snag it to see what it is like. I bet it has the potential to bite like a beast.
Anyone tried it?

Borkum and Amphora brown were the first tobaccos I ever bought from Walgreens around 1970. I couldn't eat anything apicy or drink pop for a week. Like a dummy I kept puffing a way til my grandfather gave me some advise on how and what to smoke!
Bet that new Borkum could stir up some flash back real fast!

I used to mainline on BR Original. Tried the Honey & Orange - retchable. The Genuine has got to be worth an exploratory puff - just for auld lang syne.
I'm just curious.

Borkum Riff makes an Orange and Honey blend? When did that happen?

I have tried one of the drug store blends and it was a gooey aromatic as some of these indicate they would be. Champagne flavored? Never would have thought of that. Wow.

I have all the experience with Borkum Riff that I can handle. If they wind up making a VA flake with a dash of perique I will still steer clear.

Iv'e tried all the Borkum Blends.
I liked the Cognac and Rum flavored ones the best, then they discontinued them. To me, Amphora Red was a much better smoke, if smoked slow and proper. If not, it bit like a Tasmanian Devil!
I miss Amphora Red and Green, they were my faves for many years.

Somehow, in all of my smoking experiences, I missed out totally on the Borkum Riff experience, and from what I'm reading, I didn't miss much. I tried the Sails Yellow and White, and the AMphora Brown (all of which I enjoyed), and 'Dutchman, which was less than enjoyable. But, thanks, I'll leave the BR bounty to all of you.

Although I didn't try all the different varieties, the whiskey flavored was enough for me. Amphora Red, on the other hand, was a staple smoke of mine for many years. It was my Saturday night, go to town tobacco because the great aroma helped start conversations with the ladies. Naturally, this was before I was married. Pop's Pipe is right, if smoked too fast it would bite but smoked slowly it was a good aromatic. I think it's still available through Synjeco but there are so many good aromatics that are easier to come by (especially the Boswell aromatics) that I don't mess with it anymore.

From what I have read, nobody here has tried the non-flavored burley/VA blend. I would still like to give it a shot if I could ever find it. If anyone sees it online, let me know, please.
Cheers!

I never smoked a BR blend. However, I did read on another forum that the blends have been revamped and the quality is a lot better now. Take that as you will though.
