Cigar Cutters and Rope Tobaccos
I was at the B&M yesterday and was thinking about those cutters the cigar guys use to chop the ends off their cigars ... seems to me they'd work wonders on rope tobacco cutting it into little discs like Escudo or Three Nuns ... has anyone tried this? Does it work? I'm thinking of getting some ropes (the low nic ones) to play with in my next tobacco order and wondered if I should grab one of these cutters too.

This paraphrased from his "stuff for your kitchen" book. He suggests keeping a cigar cutter in the kitchen drawer for slicing vegetables. Why? Because cigars are pure vegetable and something made to slice those is made to slice just about any rolled-up leafy foliage.
...and then he goes on to say that the Davidoff pictured is used only to cut cigars. :p
Anyhow, I can't see why you shouldn't use a cigar cutter to slice rope. You might gum up the blades a bit, but if you get something with double-bladed action, it ought to clean easily. Let us know how it works out.
Like Greenbear said, get a double-bladed model and give it a shot. You can pick one up relatively cheap. Of course, sometimes the cheap ones get dull pretty quickly, but I would still go that route if I were you. I have a scissor cutter built into a Swiss Army knife that I use and love. It has stayed sharp better than any other cutter I have had, but it set me back about $35.
The diameter of cigars are expressed in a number called ring gauge. This number represents a 1/64th of an inch. A cigar with an 32 ring gauge is 1/2 inch in diameter. A 60 is 15/16 inch in diameter. When buying a cutter, it will sometimes tell you how large of a cigar that it will cut. Make sure it can handle your ropes; I am not sure how fat they usually are.

I use a very thin fruit knife that I have sharpened so much one could use it for sepukku. it works very well. I have used knifes with thicker blades as well, not that good...
I am about to recieve a bit of rope tomorrow, as a gift, I could try it out and report. The ropes I have had are from SG and GH, they are quite tough (more so than any cigar I have ever smoked), so a knife seems to give a little better control...

If the ropes are tough, then the cutter might only pinch it. Especially if the moisture content is high.

I have a good (cheap) double-bladed model, but I use only for habanos and cigars.
I don't like use this for twist tobacco (brown n°4, black xx, etc..), in my opinion I don't have enough control on the cut section. The cut section is too large.
I use a surgery-knife-scalpel, I bought this in pharmacy.

yep, I have tried the cigarr cutter, works ok but... I do prefer the knife.
The rope I have tried this on is Sam Gawith Brown Pigtail.
Rick; You should really try this rope, it smokes really cool, really smooth. and it DGT's very very nicely. The sweetness in this is a real suprise.
You might object, saying that this is to heavy in nicotine.. well, I am smoking my second bowl now, almost back to back with the first one, with some time to test for DGT. I'd say that the nicotine content is way lower than expected. And at the same time, with dgt'ing being a breeze...
Go for it, not much to lose, is there ? :)
EDITED:
it was brown pigtail and not Brown No 4. sorry

It will take me a while to get used to "this" use of the term "Delayed Gratification Technique". I always associated that technique for something I do in the bedroom. I will work on it, though, and thanks for the clarification.
