I have some estate pipes for sale

Haven't even looked at them in years. Mostly name brand, such as Dunhill. Just discovered this site, so figured I would ask a question:

Do I clean them up, or sell as is? or have them cleaned by a tobacconist? Which is preferable?
Will take inventory tonight and advise. FYI - I'm in Norwalk, CT.
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to replies!

Only speaking for myself...

I prefer to do my own cleaning of used pipes only because that's part of the enjoyment for me. A cursory clean-up is probably all they need before showing them...I've rescued some real dogs so nothing phases me.

The cleaner they are the more they'll sell for on ebay.

You can just clean them up yourself and list it as such - I've had great luck listing what types (and brands if you remember) of tobacco were smoked in each pipe. Personally I won't buy a pipe that has smoked aromatics so any time I see a listing that doesn't specifically list out that the smoker smoked VAs or Burleys I just pass it by. If I'm super interested in the pipe I'll shoot the seller a question or two regarding his/her smoking preferences.

Start your price low ... ebay pipe buyers are a bunch of cheap bastids! And don't sweat if if you have no reasonable bids with only 1 day remaining in the auction ... they seem to wait (as I do) until the last possible minute to bid.

Lastly take lots of pics of the pipes and don't be stingy about showing off your goods in the auction. If I see an auction with one blurry pic I'm outta there. Show me a good reason for me to be interested.

Now, all that being said, Dunhills ...... we can talk! Shoot me a private message here on MPC (top left side of this window - click on "My Inbox" and then you'll figure out what to do next).

Dood - and add a zero and

Dood - and add a zero and I'll think about it. There are only five pipes pictured on my flickr. I have another 6 or so, but these first 5 are the best. Most cost well over $100, and upwards of 300 - 400 when new.

As pretty as they are...

Good news is, the year is not far from over. LOL
