Captain Bob says Hi!

Captain Bob says Hi!

I am enjoying this Forum very much. Am age 58 and smoke only pipes since age 16. Been into saucing my own tobacco blends. I get raw tobacco blends to my specifications (with the help of Craig Tarler), from C&D. I also enjoy the only tobacco Craig ever smokes. That is, Two Friends Heritage!

I am from Appleton, Wisconsin. Thirty-six years as an Independent Insurance Agent and also a pilot. Also a partner in an aviation related company (see www.flyelite.com). We design, engineer and manufacture FAA Approved - Advanced Aviation Training Devices (simulators). Specifically the RC-1 as our lead product world-wide.

I look forward to looking in on the Forum often and hoping to contribute as well as enjoy the excellent communications. Thanks for having me!

Hey, Bob

Good to see another aviation person here. Licensed pilot and A&P here that has worked for a couple of business aviation OEMs. Speaking of simulators, I currently work with a guy who has 1) worked for CAE (2) worked at an OEM developing a data package for simulator creation and 3) worked for NASA developing the first Shuttle simulator. Fun stuff, this aircraft business.

Welcome aboard and have fun here.

Welcome to the

MPC, a rather unique confederation of individuals dedicated to the gentle pastime of pipe smoking and its ephemeral qualities. Post often and bare your soul. It's good for you. Cheaper and a lot more productive than therapy.

Hey?!

An insurance guy who develops aviation training simulators - hmmm. No conflict of interest there... Welcome here Cap'n. Welcome to the earthy end of the pipe forum spectrum - the home of codger burleys, corn cob pipes &, just when you least expect it, ephemeral prose.

Hello bob.

I am enjoying this forum and I guess you could say I am "hooked"! I have a lot of tobacco sauce on hand so come on over and mix something up for yourself.

Any of you live in Wisconsin?

If so, come on over and we'll mix you up something special to try. Gotta use up all these flavors. How about chocolate-cherry? I use only miniscule amounts of flavoring as I am technically a non-aromatic smoker. Just a drop of flavor on my blends. But, if you want an aromatic, stop by for a real treat. I have thirty sauces on hand. Appleton, WIsconsin is 30 miles southwest of the Green Bay Packer Stadium.

I love people who smoke pipes and fly airplanes...

But, we dare not do both at the same time. Sealed tubes, altitude and smoke elicit emergency responses by the pilot. It's a huge conflict of interest.

One must say "Flight Attendant", not Stewardess!

That won't work with me Capt ... I'll never be politically correct. They're stewardesses. Don't care what their personal plumbing is. Oh yeah, those other folks are MailMEN, FireMEN, PoliceMEN, etc.

next we'll be wanting it spelled wymyn I expect...hahaha...just kidding...

It still isn't as bad here as it is at my Uni...they have now instituted the third bathroom option: the "people" bathroom, so that gender unclear individuals may enter a bathroom without needing to choose a gender role...load of BS if you ask me...but I mean you know gender neutral bathrooms are far more important than the lack of parking on campus and the seriously dilapidated university housing options...

but welcome aboard Captain...

now back to the topic at hand...pipe tobacco...

I am not so sure what I like in my sauces...the only aromatic-ish tobacco that I really like is Mac B Scottish Mixture...and I used to like McClelland Deep Hollow...but recently it just tastes like cotton candy to me...

I wonder what the topping on some of my favorites are though...like McClelland St. James Flake...or OJK...or Mac B navy Flake...hmmm...

Cheers,

Josh

Hi Bob

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see another member pretty close to me. I live in Menominee in the U.P.I do go to Greenbay and Appleton quite often. I build Wausau Homes and have built quite a few from Fon Du Lac up. Any good pipe shops in your area? I go to the guitar center in Appleton at least once a month, guitars, another expensive hobby of mine. Again welcome!
Regards,
Dave

So, I agree with you guys. It is still mailMEN for me, too. However, being in aviation, I have learned the term FLIGHT ATTENDANT. After all, when looking at a MALE "Stewardess", it is difficult not to refer to HIM as a FLIGHT ATTENDANT. Stewardess just does not fit the image. Now, the image and gender can sometimes be confusing and that's another reason why I have caught on to FLIGHT ATTENDANT. Now that we have that resolved, it is time to light up my Captain Bob's Blend in my new pipe!

So, when you are in the area, give me a heads-up ahead of time and we'll get together for a smoke! There are not any "real good" shops in Appleton. That is why I go direct to C&D for all my tobacco needs. Don't worry, I'll mix you up something special when you come over.

It is rare, indeed, that a blender will share his secret sauce. However, C&D is an exception. They have always told me when asked. I always share my sauce secrets. So, they are not secrets. It is often very difficult to nail down an aromatic flavor because most often it is a combination of three to ten or more ingredients. If it isn't obvious to you, that most likely means it is a combination of different flavor ingredients. What you end up with is something you just can't pin down but it may be real good to your taste buds!
