Hello Everyone
I've lurked around here for awhile. I thought it was about time to introduce myself.
I found this site after typing 'codger burlies' into Google one day. I had seen the phrase mentioned to describe most of the blends I smoke. After reading several blogs, I became hooked.
I am 30 years old and have smoked in some form for about 12 years. I use to smoke cigarettes and cigars, but have smoked pipes exclusively the last few years. My pipe collection mostly consists of Petersons, Kaywoodies, and cobs.
I like most types of tobacco, but burly is my favorite. Some of my favorite blends are Edgeworth RR'ed, Prince Albert, Carter Hall, and Walnut. Lately, I've been trying my hand at home blending.
I look forward to meeting all of you.

Someone google searching "Codger Burlies" Oh I love it. I suppose I can take credit for coining the term Codger Burley 3 years or so ago. I decided to go on a burley safari and began smoking the likes of Prince Albert, Half and Half and Carter Hall. It occurred to me that in my childhood, these were the blends that all the old codgers smoked, thus the term Codger Burley.
Needless to say my burley safari turned into a life calling. I am now almost exclusively a burleyphile and only occassionally step out of the codger burley realm (Some of Morleysson's blends at C&D enjoy the codger burley distinction as well due to character and presentation).
I see you're a Kaywoodie guy as well. Welcome aboard!

for real? Can there really be another one out there? This thing is going beyond cult status to fullblown mainstream religion: the Unholy Disorder of Codgers & Kaywoodiphilies. You're not far from having to get your own pointed white hats & cloaks, or whatever. GI, what happened to your picture? Are you preparing something really special?
Although I'll smoke anything that burns, I lean towards burley 98% of the time. Currently, my OTC blends are Sir Walter Raleigh and Edgeworth RR. I'm happily addicted to C&D's Old Joe Krantz and Haunted Bookshop. Hope to learn more about you here.

always nice to see a new face...but googling codger burley...that is something I would not have thought to do...anyway...nice way to find us all here...I may not be a strictly burly guy...but I like my OJK just as much as any VA flake out there...anyway...there is a good group of people here...and hope you stop in often...
Cheers,
Josh
Sounds like you will fit in very well.

Personally I'm more of a VA smoker but I love a good burley from time to time too. Just last week I fell in love with Solani Aged Burley Flake ... go figure. Hey, you're certainly welcome here and we'll all be sure to bust you up from time to time about those codger burleys (right after we admit to smoking multiple bowls of Prince Albert ourselves).

It seems the denizens of the tub factories are attracted to MPC like flies on sh*t. What has it been? About 2 years since a high brow tin popper showed his face here. When they do they peel out of here so quick skid marks are left on the cyber highway.
Anyway Beckett, Welcome. It isn't your fault, I think here we all know who is responsible for this very sad state of affairs. There are two letters that immediately come to mind.

There are quite a few of us "tin poppers" on here. Of course, we also have a few big plastic tubs stashed away in the dark corners. I am not to the point that I wish to have my ashes interred in a Walnut can when I die . . . at least not yet.

Sorry for the delay in the Welcome... but anyway. Post often, and enjoy, and try not to be scared off by all the crazies here *TWITCH* We are mostly harmless.

I just jumped in, and these guys have been nothing but gracious. Thanks all.
this is beckett's intro thread. No hi-jacking intro's, you have to start your own.

Codger burley is a great term. It fits perfectly with the line of thought I have when I think of the pipe smokers who've influenced me to light up my first bowl.
If it puts anyone at better ease, you don't get many results if you type codger burlies in Google. Hopefully, that changes in the future. It's too sad that many pipe smokers miss out of these old-fashion blends. I am still shocked at the demise of Edgeworth.
I haven't written myself completely off as a tin popper . I do enjoy some english, va/per, and aromatic blends. I recently bought some P.S. Bullseye Flake for the first time. I am enjoying it so far.
Thanks for welcoming me in your community.

Bring on the burleys!
Fasten your seatbelt so you can't get at the Stewardess... excuse me... the FLIGHT ATTENDANT! This is a great group of fella's. Would love to personally meet each and every one of them. Maybe someday we can all meet somewhere. How about my house in Wisconsin? Cause I don't like to fly (just kidding about the flying part)!

LOL!
Edit: Sorry, I should make this post longer as I don't like those single word response posts you see everywhere on the net. Bob, that was just too dang funny!
