I'm new here!!
hello everybody, just found this forum! it looks like a good place to hang with other briar brothers. I'm from the great State of Washington,Ridgefield to be exact. For those who don't know Washington geography, Ridgefield is just north of Vancouver,WA, which is just north of portland,OR.
Been smoking the pipe for about ten years now,my collection numbers in the 80's but still seems to have a habit of growing. I'm a sucker for pretty wood as long as I have the extra cash. I manage to keep an opportunity fund in case a pipe comes along that has buy me and smoke me all over it! I favor straight Virginia's and do enjoy most English blends as long as there is significant latakia involved. Rarely if ever will I even load and light an aromatic. I like the smell of many just have not found one with enough taste and body to satisfy my tastes I know my family would like it if I would smoke an aromatic since they all hate anything with Latakia in it! I tell them that it smells so good and tastes even better, but they don't agree so I go to my man cave for latakia when I need a fix!
OK enough about me, I'm happy to be here and look forward to getting to know the others.

This is my Pipe. There are many like it, but this one is MINE.
My pipe is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life.
My pipe without me is useless. Without my Pipe, I am useless
You found a neat site! Glad to have you aboard.

You have a good many adopted briar brothers here who also enjoy VA and even some who like latakia. It's good to see another latakia appreciator. Folks just love to hate latakia for some reason.
For myself, I have an ounce of latakia to the pound in my Private Blend: Captain Bob's Full Flavored Blend which I refer to as a non-aro. We do add a drop of "grape" tobacco flavoring to the mix for a very minor undetectable sweetness to bring out the flavor of the leaf mixture. In case you want to try it, it is available from Cornell and Diehl factory direct. www.cornellanddiehl..... You must call to order.
Here is the formula.
Captain Bob's Full Flavored Blend.
Black Cavendish 5 oz.
Turkish (Izmir) 2 oz.
Latakia 1 oz.
Red VA 5 oz.
Perique 1 oz.
Carolina Brights 2 oz.
Plus just a "drop" of grape flavor.
I have found that the leaf cut and quality of C&D tobaccos is exceptional and while you might be successful duplicating the formula locally, others have told me it is better from C&D.
Welcome Aboard! Enjoy your latakia blends.

I knew there had to be another pipe smoker in the PNW. I am about an hour from you down here in Salem. Welcome to you sir.
(I say that with a bit of reservation being new here myself, sort of like answering the door at someone elses house.)

You'll see me smoking mostly burley stuff, but I have been known to sneak Virginias now and then. Welcome!

You were closest to the door anyway :)

You're not officially part of the family - feel free to jump on board any topic any time! Its good to have another VA smoker around these parts - sometimes it feels like we're over run my burley folks. Personally I favor VAs and Va/Burleys with an occasional English. Aromatics = yak ... can't do 'em.
Edit: (darn keyboard!)
The first sentence should have read: "You're NOW officially part of the family" ... frassin rassin new fangled contraptions. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

Do you expect him to go through some kind of hazing?
EDIT: Rick must be on that damn Ipod.

Good guess ... I was on the iPhone (not iPod ... silly ckr).
When I read it tonight I thought, jeeze I sounded like a complete ass - now some of you may say that every time I post, but this one was completely unintentional which makes a world of difference!
