10/17/08 - Morleysson - "Other than rubbing two sticks together, or flint and tinder, and lightening takes too long and can be dangerous, I prefer Diamond kitchen matches in the house and the smaller Diamond packs for travel." (on what he uses to light his pipe)
10/17/08 - 1OLDGI - "So Ricky, here's what you do. Pull out a Kaywoodie (make sure it's clean), lock and load a nice bowl of PA, Half and Half, or Edgeworth. Set fire to same. Open a cold Natural Light and enjoy. Sometimes less is more and getting back to basics is a sure fire way to stave off these sorts of existential funks."

Burley
I voted burley.
Burley
Now there's a shocking surprise
burley
Most of what I smoke is either burley or has it in it
And i love natural tobacco taste
So I voted burley
Burley, yeah definitely burley...
Make it an even four
VA ... or should I say VA/Burley!
I voted VA but to be honest many my favorite tobaccos are VA/Burleys. The reason I voted VA is that when given the choice to go straight VA or straight Burley its a hands down VA run every time.
Burley
I do like a good Virginia tobacco and I will go out of my way for a Balkan blend. But if pressed hard on the issue a burley based blend will win out with me most every time.
VA
Even though H&H and ERRd are great tobaccos, VA's are my main source of enjoyment
VA
rules the roost in my coop. Currently Virginacan's are leading 6-5 first quarter , RUNowski goes out long GI throws ....
Stay tuned to MPC for live coverage of this event.
TD, score tied
rumbling with the brown and gold of the burley-ista.
BTW, in the day, I was a center and guard on offense and middle guard on defence, and a catcher for the local nine. Surprise, huh?
Burleyitus...
I enjoy a straight VA, VA/PER, and latakia laced stuff now and then, but my main diet is burley.
I voted Virginia.... but...
It has been VA's and English blends for quite sometime. I must admit however that I have grown quite fond of Burley blends, especially if they have a smidgin of VA in them just to round out the flavor. The Beaver Blend that I made up at my local shop is a majority of White Burley and MacB Golden Extra, and I find myself going to it more and more.
So, today, while browsing tobaccos, I noticed myself poking around the Burley section more than anywhere else.
VA's nudge ahead again
I am having a ball burying my stummel in all genres!, however, the home base is still sweet Virginia!!
The voting here should be like it is in Florida.
The codgers get to vote two or three times.
;-)
ROTFLMAO: Florida Codgers
Oh man, that one got me ... don't sweat it though - seeing the makeup of MPC I'm sure the Burleyphiles will come out on top of the vote.
Florida Codgers
Hey, I resemble that remark! But it all came out even because GIs voting absentee didn't count. If we lose, I'll start Burley On.org. And complain non-stop about the Virginicans until we do this again next year.
VAs for now
My current preference is Virginia, though it did not used to be and likely will not be in the future. Had to go with "the now."
I like it all so I said "other"...
When you look at the make-up of a pound Captain Bob's Blend, it pretty well sums it up...
5 oz Black Cavnendish
5 oz Red Virginia
2 oz Carolina Brights
2 oz Turkish (Izmir)
1 oz Perique
1 oz Latakia
I smoke it both unflavored and flavored. When flavoring is desired, I add a miniscule amount of Concord Grape to bring out the sweetness of the leaf. The Black Cavendish in this blend is Green River Burley. (C&D provides my ingredients)
I'm stumped
I've been pondering over this question for a whole day now and I'm completely dumbfounded. It's the same as asking a slut:" Which one do you like most, Johnny, Willy or Dick?" I really can't make up my mind. Being the tobaccoslut that I am, I like them all for what the are. Or maybe i'm not experienced enough in the art of pipesmoking to make a verdict in this case. I didn't vote at all. Ask me again in ten years from now.
Count me in as a burley vote, too
I smoke and enjoy almost all types of mixtures but burley has always been no. 1. If I was marooned on a desert island with either some Morley's Best or Epiphany and a good pipe like a Mark Tinsky, I would be a happy man.
Smokey
It's Burley by Seven Percentage Points
Obama has less of a lead on McCain and they've already started moving his stuff into the whitehouse! Burley Rules!
Wait until he appoints his Codger cabinet...
Bill Ayers, Rev Wright, Fr, Flagerty, Toni Rizzo, etc... (Tony, only after Obama grants him a Pardon to get his ass out of jail). God help us all.
TOBACCOS
It's all good but if I have to choose it's VA.
I am not surprised at the results thus far...
Interesting. VA and Burley are tied at 42%. I could break the tie if I was allowed to vote twice. A politician once said "Please remember to vote... and to vote often!"
Wait A Minute
Being a Florida Codger, don't I get two votes? I've yet to cast my second. HA! Once again Burley Rules! Victory is mine! Sorry, a 5Edges buzz at midnight is a bad thing. I think I'll get to sleep some time around the weekend!
I just realized...
...Lar's left out the most popular tobacco in America... Black cavendish! I demand a revote without "hanging chads".
BURLEY
i am stick to Burley since the day i've started smoking pipe. The reason is very simple because there're not many tobacco choices in my country: only Half & Half, Caiptan Black, Borkum Riff and Seventy Nine. However, H&H is a great tobacco, i enjoy it.
Looking back and reading
Looking back and reading what blends people have been talking about the most over the past year or so, the poll is quite representative.
As much as I would like to empower people by getting them to smoke OGS and other worthy VA's, I have to accept that the Burleyphiles are a lost cause :)
And what's this with "Lar's" .. I've seen a bunch of you guys do it now. It's Lars .. no apostrophe .. Conform or be condemned to eternal pure sweet black cavendish torment in a broken cob.
Lars, Lars, Lars, Lars, Lars,
Lars, Lars, Lars, Lars, Lars... Just practicing so as not to offend Lar's anymore! OOPHS! that's LaRS!!!
I'm finding the results a
I'm finding the results a little surpising. I figured Burley would crush all other challengers, but Virginia has held its own quite nicely.
Beckett, I am thinking the same.
Seems the last time we polled this the GI threw a fit and demanded a recount. Since that time though it seemed that all new members were Codgers and (vocal as they are) seemed to have really been the majority around here. So much so that I am totally surprised by the outcome so far.
Closet Virginicans, amazing.
